    96 Cl D2 and D3

    Post  soccerdad1 on Wed Mar 17, 2010 11:21 pm

D2-4 teams challenging for the top two spots with 2 games left
Longhorns-who says defense doesn't win championships-only 3 goals allowed all year-still must finish out the last 2 games-they are definitely in the drivers seat
    Andromeda-must stay ahead of TFC
TFC-holds the tiebreaker over Andromeda with a win H2H
    FCDRW-must have some help
Torndoes-out of it but has not lost in 2nd half of season-has to be a favorite next year
FC Blue and Lightning-both relegated to D3
    D3
    Odyssey-won the division-headed to D2
FW United and East Texas Spirit-tied for 2nd-will play each other in the last game of the season-FWU needs to win last 2 games-ETS just needs to beat FWU as they own the tiebreaker
DTRN-needs some help-owns tiebreaker over FWU but ETS owns tiebreaker over DTRN-will be eliminated for 2nd if ETS wins this weekend
Kicks-longshot to achieve 2nd but also could still end up in the challenge position
Boca is definitely in challenge games but don't think they will fair well there either-wow-100 goals allowed with 2 games remaining
ASG,Andromeda,Aces, and Flash all fighting to stay out of the other challenge spot-3 are tied and 1pt seperates the 4th
Should be an interesting finish in both divisions
    Any thoughts?????

Unless the rule has changed from previous years Head-to-Head is not officially part of the tiebreaker. Tiebreaker is:

    1. Goal Differential
    2. Goals For
    3. Committee Decision (I imagine H2H would be considered heavily in this case).

Thanks cornerkick-guess I was living by last years rules-that makes it even more interesting. No wonder why everyone keeps running up the score on Boca in D3 Smile.

Yeah that was an interesting situation with Boca, who appear to be headed out of Classic league for good in the 96 age group. Definitely an argument for limiting number of goals per game which count towards goal differential. Some coaches just won't run up the score and will stop at 5 or 6. Others apparently don't have a problem with their boys putting up 12 or more. Goal totals against Boca appeared to have little to do with how good the other team was (see totals run up by the current 9th place team for reference).

    D2
I think LH & Andro will make it D1 but they will have long years unless they recruit.
FCDRW - this team seems to luck out every year with either avoiding relegation or picking up good players leaving other teams. But they won't get so lucky this year.
TOR, TFC, Comets - physical teams that always have a chance to muscle out wins. These guys will be in contention every year.
Club Classic West - From D1 down to D2 and finishing 7-8? They must have lost players or got lots of cards!
Will FCDB and TxL be able to field teams next yr? I'm sure FCD will fill the spot with whomever can pay dues but what about TxL?

    D3
ODY will be able to recruit even more this June with their 1st place finish. They should be OK in D2.
ETS & FWUB - surprised these guys are at the top of the table. They took advantage of a very watered down D3.
FWUB pulls it off and gets 2nd.
Andro did well last yr, was it smoke and mirrors or did big bro take some of their players?
Kicks, ASG an Aces are very consistent... they stay the same, no improvement. But they'll find a way to avoid the challenge.
Jumping Jack will find themselves back in the challenge.

    What are "lose's"?
Plus, how hard could it be to tear up D3? It's D3.

This is also that key age group where alot of the athletic kids who can have moved or are going to move to school sports. Most teams that haven't lost kids at this point won't be moving down anymore.

Well, Odyssey moved up from Plano and dominated D3, how many other PPL teams did that in the 96 age group. Give credit where credit is due!

What do you mean about FCDRW "avoiding regulation?"

FCDRW avoided the challenge tourney a couple of years ago b/c another FCD team fell apart. So FCD White took it's place in the challenge tourney, FCDRW got bumped to D2. The next yr, FCDRW was suppose to get relegated to D3 but was saved again b/c of teams imploding.
My memory is hazy... lots of margaritas' since then, but I think I got it right.

    FWDRW..was always DII.....(06/07) qualified at DII......then (07/08) ASG & ? dropped.....(08/09) DTRN & Bocas dropped...(09/10) looks like FCDB & Lightning

Not trying to beat up any team, but if we're discussing FCDRW - Che then SM040 is basically correct:

06/07: U11 - Qualified at D2 (which is really D3, teams 21 - 30). Finished 9th place and was facing challenge tournament. FCD-Red (who finished 11th in D1) imploded so FCDRW was placed into the D2-bye by the club. FCD-White who had finished well back in Plano was then thrust into challenge games in FCDRW place (to the shagrin of Ody fans amongst others).

To their credit FCDRW has managed to hang on in D2 and seems to have improved each season, but if the "club owns the bye" rule had not been implemented AND if FCD-Red had not disbanded after a nice U11 campaign I doubt FCDRW would be in classic league currently
