    Teams changing clubs

Post  wareagle on Fri Apr 16, 2010 5:06 pm

There has been quite a few discussions about kids changing clubs but what about entire teams or good portions of them (including the coach) changing clubs? Do any of you anticipate teams shaking things up a bit?

Happened with a D1 FC Dallas Blue 98 girls team. The coach and entire team left FCD for Liverpool. In general, that's nearly impossible to pull off because it takes 75% of the team to move to another club to take the Classic League bye to the new club. It's nearly impossible to get 75% of any team to agree to anything. In the case of the FCD girls team, the coach is extremely well liked, and this is the second team he's moved between clubs with his entire team!

Can you share more details regarding which specific rules or guidelines permit this?
Is this possible if 75% of the team members or more decide to switch but not the coach?

See page 11 (of 29) of this document.
It has nothing to do with the coach.
The bye stays with the original club unless 75% of the rostered players form a team with a new club.

Thank you. This is quite interesting, I wonder if there are teams out where there is >= 75% of parents/players unhappy with their team and club.

It happens, but not too frequently. I would claim that most of the time it happens because teams want to be in a smaller club with smaller dues.

At this age group (U11) you are going to see so many boys going from one team to another that it will be nearly impossible for any team to keep 75% of its original roster.

This is my DD's coach (we are his younger team) - the tougher thing was that if even 1 player said 'no' - North Texas wouldn't allow the team to join Liverpool (they would have stayed at FCD and had to find another coach). We left Sting as well, so it was old hat - we just like our coach and know that's more important than any type of uniform or car decal involved.
The bye is something totally different, that deals more with a team defecting are falling apart - it's not quite the same deal. One is a Classic League situation, the other is a North Texas situation (more like a name change that affects your NTSSA contract).
