    Cowtown:
DTS, ODY, FWUG and East TX.
DTS has the "toughest" bracket; ODY & FWUG have the easiest route to the semis. East TX has a fighting chance to win their bracket.
I think ODY will take this tourney.

    Carey:
Andro or DFW Tor will win this.
This tourney has all the usual suspects for a Lewisville event. This is an opportunity for any decent CL team to gain additional hardware.

    Cowtown:
    DTS, ODY, FWUG and...
East TX or CCW. I find it difficult to predict between these 2. It could go either way.
Unless DTRS is having some roster issues that I am unaware of, I predict them to win.

    Carey:
Andro or DFW. This too, is very tight match-up for me.

Hardware is not important to the Tornados. We actually entered the tourney in the 95B group. It fell apart. We tried to get into the Cowtown 95B group but they said it was too late. Our third choice was the Cowtown 96 group, same thing there-too late. So we got stuck in the 96B group at Carey. Oh well

Surely the website is incorrect for FW.

In the brackets it does show DTRS, CCW, FWU and Ody as the teams that should be advancing Ias expected), but in the semis, Sapitos, the team just behind Ody is showing to be playing against DTRS.

Good going FWUG... beat D2 CCW (aligning team but still D2) and a D1 DTRS team. FW should do well next yr in D2.
Surprising final in the Carey... PPL D2 team over a CL D2 team; say it ain't so!
So with these results, what was the guest player factor?

Heard Coppell maxed out their guest players and was told the team did not resemble the same team that played in Plano D2. Did not get to see FWU play but heard they had at least 1 beast on the field-for a team that lost 6 games during the season to beat a D2 and D1 team something had to change Smile

Even if a PPL2 team got the best five players in the DFW area (which more than likely they didn't), they still shouldn't beat a D1 and D2 team. A victory over a D3 team wouldn't be as shocking but Andro and TOR? These are suppose to be good teams to watch out for. This can't be good for recruiting purposes.

SM040-FWU and DTRS had plenty of guest players. I am sure several other teams did as well. Its that time of year where coaches and players are trying to get looks.

I was told by several "in the know" PPL parents that the Coppell United side did not resemble their PPL team. Regardless of the make up of the roster CU fielded for the Carey tournament, they were a very talented, big, physical side that played good, hard soccer especially in the semi final and final of the tournament. Always tough to loose a final in the last minute of regulation but both sides got quality work in and CU should be commended on their play.

If that is the roster CU takes into PPL play then the rest of the teams in PPL better stop, drop and roll because they are going to get burned.......

Aces looked pretty good. Does anyone know if they had any guest players?

Good win for the Aces-should pump up the team for the challenge games. Good luck!

Have to admit thinking the Aces were done with Classic League, but maybe not. After the poor Spring who would have seen them beat High Plains Drifters (API champs) and DFWT White?

Suprisingly mediocre play from the Tornados - would have expected a lot better after their great spring run in D2. Great thing about tournament play as opposed to league play is how unpredictable it is I guess.

You have to take into account that tourney games are shortened. 10 mins of play can make a huge difference... too bad the challenge games are treated like tourney games instead of league play.
The challenge will be interesting this yr b/c you can pretty much chalk up 3 pts against Boca. The other teams are evenly matched.
As for TOR and their average play... maybe CL D2 is just overrated. We're not talking about teams that can force their will on teams. As long as your team is aggressive, you'll have a shot at winning against D2 or D3 teams... just ask Coppell Strikers and Liverpool (PPL2).

I watched CU play the Tornados in the Carey tournament. The game CU played was very simple. Long ball it down the field and hope the guest player forward beat the defense for the shot on goal. If all the teams had played a better ball possession game, they would have beat Coppell hands down. Tornados got a poor 50/50 call when their goalkeeper came out to get the ball. The guest player forward and the goal keeper collided in the box and the ref called it on the GK. It was fair play and in my opinion a bad call. The CU forward did an excellent job of rolling around on the ground to try and get the foul. I would be surprised if the CU guest player stayed to play in Plano next year.

I think it will be Inter and either Drifters or Force finishing in the top two places. Drifters don't like to lose. Aces could make it happen though. They have a awesome sweeper, and a bad to the bone keeper. Force has alot of size and are as tight of team as you will find. Challenge games should be interesting.
