What would be the pros vs. the cons between these two tournaments. Are either considered a "Showcase" tournament. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I am sure this post was very helpful. PLD always had interesting teams from outside the metroplex .

A "Showcase" tournament is one which the primary purpose is for high school aged players to showcase their talent in front of attending college coaches. Typically it is a friendly format (no championships) open only to U15's and above.
That said, neither of the tournaments you asked about (Tx Summer Classic, Plano Labor Day) are "Showcase" tournaments. However, their differences include:

    • Different weekends and duration (TSC runs Friday/Saturday/Sunday, PLD runs Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday)
    • Different National Classifications (TSC is Copper Tournament, PLD is Silver Tournament)
    • Different National Rankings (TSC is ranked 208th, PLD is ranked 141st)
    • Competition (TSC's teams are mostly local (NTx), PLD pulls a lot of teams from OK, Arkansas, STx, LA, Mississipi, Kansas, etc. )
    • # of teams (TSC has ~80 teams in it (boys & girls), PLD has ~500 teams in in (boys & girls)
    • Locations (TSC plays in McKinney/Colony, PLD plays on Plano fields (Russell Creek, Carpentar))

Excellent info. Thank you for the response. This is my first year as a CO-Team Manager and I am taking on scrimmages and tournaments. Our Coach wants to participate in the PLD which will be two games into our reg. season(Classic D2-U15)however, TSC is apx. 2 weeks before the start of our season which would be a good warm up.

In my opinion, that is exactly why you play in both tournaments.
Play the TSC as a warm-up to give new players a chance to get some game action with returning players. Also helps all the players to shake off their summer vacations and get in game mode before league play starts. Then, play PLD for some good (and different) competition.
As a bonus...if you do well in the tournaments (especially PLD), you will earn some good ranking points that might help you get into invitational tournaments down the road. However, since U15 year for boys is not an intense college recruiting year, I would recommend holding off entering showcases until U16 and older. IMO, it is better to save your money during U15 and do some quality local tournaments that can build your team's resume. Then, focus on the showcases beginning U16 year. Showcase tournament entry fees are usually expensive ($800-$1200) and with travel spread over long weekends or holidays, they can drain the budget quickly.
