    Fall 2010 Competitive '03 Leagues

    Post  SoccerDad12 on Wed Jul 14, 2010 12:53 pm

Looking to learn where a some of the more competitive Academy '03 teams will be playing this fall. I hear that Plano SDL is pretty good. Wondering where TFC, Texans, Dynamo, and Solar, will be competing. Mansfield FC has a pretty good '03 team as well. Would be nice to get in that mix. FYI: My kid plays on the Odyssey '03 team.

CincoB: Thanks for the reply. SDL is what I'm learing is where most of the quality '03 teams play so I've been tasked to learn more. Googling for registration information at this time. We'll see what happens.

Thanks Ibystander: I'm investigating the possibility of registering an existing, entire team. Not just a player or two. Hope I've interpreted your reply correctly. I've located the appropriate registration website and believe I've figured out what we need to do to make that happen if we go that route.. I've also inquired about the teams who will be participating in the '03 age division.

I think his bb is an 03. He coached them in Rec for a couple of years.

Thanks for the feedback all. The Odyssey '03 team will compete in the SDL this Fall. From what I've learned (and I'm a bit new to this club soccer thing), this is a fantastic league. We're really looking forward to it.

His bb's an 04, playing with 03. We went to his first practice for the upcoming 03 team, and I really enjoyed sitting in the shade watching the boys work up a nice sweat. Loved the session and loved how he made the practice so intense, yet fun for the kids.

Mustangs FC practice at Northay Christian Church (NW hwy & 75) on Mondays, and at Lake Highlands High School (Church Rd & Skillman) on Thursdays - 6:00-7:30 both. That's the official schedule however the 03s that play in the 02 division stay until 8:00pm and also practice on Fridays 7:00-8:15 at LHHS.

Great practices - my bb loves them!

I believe the schedule will remain the same in the fall but I don't know for sure.

Got to see several of the 03 SDL teams play this weekend in the primtime tourney. TFC-Castro, FC Dallas, Solar Gold, and Mansfield were the teams. Very impressed with the skill level of 7-8 year old soccer players. Maybe the best part is I didn't see any parents thrown out. At least on the boys side.

Can someone please explain how the SDL and multiple practices at this age works in connection with the rule below that is on the NTX academy registration form:

U-7 & U-8 players may participate with an Academy Practice only once per week and may not compete in any games (league, tournament, or scrimmage).(Academies are a sanctioned recreational league with North Texas State Soccer Association operated thru registered member associations) Violation of this rule shall result in sanction against the offending party (coach, assistant coach, manager, parent, or other team representative), which could include suspension from all soccer activities for a period of time. NTSSA Rule 3.10.3

SDL is not affiliated with NTSSA or their rules. Primetime Sports tournaments are affiliated with US Soccer Club and their corresponding rules not NTSSA. My understanding is that most academy teams (U7 & U8) under NTSSA have a mandatory team practice once a week and an optional skills practice once a week. Most Academy teams offer two training sessions per week and a game on the weekend...weather it's through a recreational league or a more competitive league like SDL I guess is up to the coach and the paying parents.

Under NTSSA rules Academy teams come secondary to a players Recreational Team. That being said if a player is playing on both a recreational and an academy team and both require team practices the boys are still practicing twice a week. SDL, BlueSky, Inwood and other places that hold games for U6 & U7 & U8 players are affiliated with US Soccer Club.

    Hope this helps

A couple of things... There are two parts to your question.

Part 1 is regarding practices and part 2 is regarding playing games.

For part 1, you mis-quoted the rule, which makes a big difference and provides the loop hole the clubs use to get around it. The rule states:

"Under 7 and 8 players may participate with Academy teams for one practice only per week and may not compete in any games (league, tournament, or scrimmage games)."

Clubs will hold the one Academy team practice allowed by NTX, but then they will have an "open skills practice" that anyone can attend. NTX does not limit the amount of open skills practices a club can have nor for what age groups they can have them for.

As far as playing in SDL or PSAL is concerned, they are not sanctioned leagues by NTX, so they can't apply their rule to the clubs playing over there.

Thanks to you both for the explanation. indy, I don't know if it makes a difference or not based on the fact that the NTSSA rules do not apply, but the quote from above I got directly off of the Academy registration form that is currently posted on the NTSSA Forms webpage. It says an "academy practice" and they have it in bold. Do you think this was an attempt to close the loophole you mentioned? I don't know what the form said in the past so I can't compare them and see if it has changed in any way.

Here is the link to the form: http://www.ntxsoccer.org/FormServerTemplates/academy_player_registration.pdf
