A 58 seed making D1 is pretty awesome! Congrats to Scrappers!

And having the 64 and 66 seeds make D2 is pretty amazing, too! Well done Dallas Rebels and Colleyville Evolution White!

And Indeppendiente, with the hardest draw in the tourney (drew #1 and #2!!!) pulls it out and makes it to D2!

Those teams must have had a pretty exciting weekend!!!

The Scrappers have a good coach and some talented kids, including (I'm assuming) a former FCD Premiere player.  And they put in time playing futsal and in DFW leagues.  So they might have been under-seeded, to state the obvious.

Independiente had a tough draw, so congrats to them for competing hard.  As the seeding fell they basically had a one game play-in with FC PREMIER GREEN (JIMENEZ),  Winner of that game was always going to qualify for D2.  So maybe their draw wasn't that bad after-all.

If D2 was a team's goal (nothing wrong with that), being in a 3-team bracket with a top seed wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

You're right a roster of 18 in a 9v9 league is absurd. There will be a lot of unhappy p(l)ayers in a very short period of time. A coach can try to sell you differently, but consider the source.

So now the real question is what is the process for next year to eliminate the extra 10 teams if they are going back to the original D1, D2, and D3 format?

It's more like 6 teams. Each club has two teams.

Yes, but there are plenty of pigeons in the coup. CL will not have any problems filling the spots. The void is notwithstanding.

Welcome to the new order where the top kids never play CL.

Congratulations to all the teams that qualified this weekend (especially Liverpool Paisley, FCUSA, NTX Celtic, FC Warryors and FCD Red Lopez!) – well done boys and best of luck in CL!

I wouldnt call the Scrappers a 58 seed at all. They were undersold and should have been ranked much higher. Really this tournament wasnt about seeding except for the first 6 to 9 teams. Everything after that was just random discretion of how to put the list together. Some teams had harder brackets, some much easier. Some teams had a little history, others did not. There really isnt much of a logical way to put the seeding together except based on what you hear, nothing concrete in wins and losses (for most teams). Would have been ideal to give a 2nd weekend to try and really get closer to including the top 40 teams (even that would not be a perfect system, but would have been better). Not trying to take away from any team that made it, but 3 games in a random draw is prob not the best way to determine who should go onto to Classic.

"850 for 3 games is highway robbery, hopefully the PIT will give us a better product than classic and we can join their leagues.  wishful thinking I know."

"The only "elite" thing this league will offer is in its name. PT or UAL are the better options."

Which is it, Soccer10dad?

If teams have no history then you have to play 2 weekends. The first weekend would determine the D1 teams and give you the ability to reseed the rest for a second weekend. It has worked well every year. Not sure why the CL decided to stop doing that this year. I guess it is all about the money.

I couldn't agree more! I don't understand why they have one system for the '06 teams and a different system for the '05 teams. The whole QT for the 05 teams is a result of AP so you would think they would play more games to let the best teams rise to the top. It's not perfect but it would be a LOT better than what they did.

If you follow the logic of a second weekend, they would re-seed teams based on the previous weekend's performance.
That leaves 44 teams.
Reduce the snake to accommodate and you have the new #1 playing teams in the 20's and 40's.
With the quality of some of the teams, they would "most likely" have made D2 without any issues.
There may have been a few teams that would sneak in but a majority already made it in.
So why play a second weekend?

PS - On the quality statement, there were teams out there with no subs and backfilling their roster with girls. Not to say girls can't play, but you usually have a deeper roster than just the amount of players required on the field.

The second weekend would help settle any bracket "unfairness". Again, how can you seed teams fairly that have no history. There were several teams in the 3 team brackets that made it in with only 1 win and negative goal differentials. Will they really be competitive in CL? There were 2 teams in the 4 team brackets with a better record, better goal differential, and more points that did not make CL. I would be willing to bet that those 2 teams would be a better fit than the 8 teams in the 3 team brackets with losing records. I feel sorry for the teams in the 4 team brackets. They either had to win 2 games or have no losses to make it while the teams in the 3 team brackets only had to win 1 game to make it. Life is not fair, but neither is the CL QT.

In years past they also had a seeding tournament before qualifiers. Not sure why they didn't do that this year.

I think you nailed it there.

Every year there are always quality teams that miss CL during QT.
They had a bad game, starters were sick, no shows, bad scheduling, etc.
QT is a one shot deal where you have to string together more good games than the rest of your team's bracket.
This year was admittedly weird but we all knew it would be.

In about 10 months the teams that never should have made it will sink to the bottom and have to play in the challenge games.
In the meantime, the teams that stick it out will gain confidence in the various leagues they play in and kick butt.

You can always make it into a lesson for the kids.
Give them something to work towards...

Why? Cause your margin of error that teams that shouldnt make it goes down and those who deserve it get in. Still wont be perfect, but you can get to a better inclusive list. But for those who like March Madness maybe you agree with the format. Also if you're going to give a 2nd weekend for the 06's, why not the 05's? No logic there, no sense, they arent even consistent with the format between the two age groups. A few teams come to mind that should be in Classic and the 2nd weekend would have benefited them as they were in more competitive brackets. Solar Tezkol which has a legitimate gripe, FC Dallas West Kang which had the highest point total of a team that didnt get in, and one I would have liked to see get a better draw, but never seems to get one Dallas Roma Schell. Played two teams that got into D1 and the other into D2. On a whole other note, the allure of playing in Classic isnt there anymore; especially with 40 teams now. The 06's tournament has 40 out of 46 teams get in? You didnt even have to be very good to say you got in Classic.
