    New '03 Boys

Post  ManUfan on Tue Jul 14, 2009 11:49 pm

What clubs have already started '03 teams? My BB is with a new team out of the East. We will be playing in SDL this coming fall. Where are the current '03 teams playing?

All the big clubs you can be sure have had 03's training for about 6 months now. Most north teams will play SDL and some south teams will play in PrimeTime.

TFC has a couple 03 teams. The one my bb is on has been together for over a year and has some serious talent. We've played indoor a couple of times and competitively with PSA. We are currently playing up with 02 & 01s indoor at PSA. Team is coached by Tim Trevino.

Hey Plantit, what's going on man? I live right next to TFC in Plano so it's convenient. Josema doesn't coach an 03 team either. We actually played the Andromeda 02s a couple weeks ago and beat them 4-1. I've known the coach for many years and have been planning this team out for sometime. Not only is the coach's son on the team, but two other bbs are coaches kids (and darn good ones). We have some serious talent on this team. To Aswans comment, yes, they may be six, but you should watch them play. They already play positions, spread out, and have better touch on the ball than teams 2 or 3 years olders. You guys should come out and watch them play sometime, it's very impressive and extremely fun to watch.

I have seen some of these young kids/teams play and they are fun to watch. I am amazed by some of the talent and knowledge of soccer many of these kids already have at such a young age...growing up with family members involved in soccer every week sure makes a big difference.

Any '04 teams in the Frisco area? we are looking for a team for our youngest that is not very far from home, since we already drive 30 miles to practice for the oldest.

Wow, 5 and 6 year olds all playing positions, exibiting teamwork and playing competitvely! Awesome considering it is totally against the nature of their stage of development. I am sure they are fun to watch but I have to wonder how much fun it is for them to play. Can you say 15 and burned out? The biggest rap on U.S. soccer from our European counterparts is that it is too organized too young which in turn kills passion for the game and creativity. I agree with them.

My .02 cents, I agree with you looking at the overall picture, but there are always exceptions. The majority of the core players on our team specifically have older brothers who play or dads who coach play. I can guarantee you that in this case nobody is dragging any bbs to practices or games. They all love it and are dragging us to them if anything. My kid has been crying all afternoon cause he wants new cleats so he can go out and practice. Have you ever been to Brasil? You should see the streets and beaches with little rug rats running around playing soccer, semi-organized or not. Unfortunately, in the good ole US, we don't have that as the majority of the kids would rather be outside playing bball or football, so parents that have gung ho kids on a sport such as soccer have to do the next best thing. In my case, my 03 is my 3rd go around, with an older 15 year old and a 10 year old, and no such burn out on any sport just yet.

Axxman, it sounds to me that you have seen first hand exactly what concerns me with the academies and the little ones ( or the little ones' parents). I too have older kids that have gone thru soccer and younger ones still starting out. The experience along with my own missteps have opened my eyes. I try to never miss the opportunity to try and remind people that no matter what sport ,or what youth level, that it is jut another means for us parents to use to help instill the life lessons they will need to succeed. For the kids it should be about fun and, if they are fortunate, finding something they pursue with a passion.
Enjoy, I too love watching them at that age. It is priceless.

Satchmo has a highly competitive 05 team out of the Frisco area. They are rather severe in their qualifying guidelines, however; the boys must be out of diapers and into pull-ups, no exceptions. I am concerned that the intensive training required to acheive this level of bowel control may not be age appropriate and may be deleterious to their ultimate, long-term performance. My more serious concern, however, is the use of ring pops as post game rewards; if brought to the light of statuatory authorities this might this be considered “compensation” that violates NTSSA rules?

You are not the first to suggest this inversion of letters. Others have reported that wan is pronounced wip, long I. In any case, I am indifferent to the prattling of ruffians. But, since my oblique bent is not to your taste, let me be more explicit:

The intrusion of competive play into the lower age groups should give us pause. Regardless of how fearsome our young warriors appear, children at young ages are, and should be, into playing rather than competing. Further, the psychological maturation phase of their young minds is not conducive to the development of team concepts and strategies. One may drill competiveness and teamwork into them, but it is neither healthy nor conducive to long term success to do so; there are consequences for training regimens out of sync with the natural maturation process. Do not misunderstand; I am in favor of more play, in the truly recreational sense of the word. My observation, however, is that this is not what occurs when we place our children in the hands of professional club coaches (and many unqualified volunteer coaches), so tread carefully, my friends.

We are heading to Inwood to train with our favorite skills trainer, Frank. If any of you are interested in training for your 03, pm me. Mine is an 03 who plays for 02 and his training group is quite skilled and motivated, for their age, of course. I believe the schedule is 4-5 at Inwood, on Thurs, but that could change. If interested, head on over there or pm for details.

Skill Level or Competition Level. Coaches are asked to rate their own team from 1-3 with 1 being the highest level of skill.
