Good to see a local player making a nice showing across the pond:

Stay in school. Get a degree.

Yeah, like that's going to happen. How 'bout, stay in school, gain some weight, get some toughness, and get a degree.

Probably not. Just play in Ireland, eat your potatoes, and drink your Guinness.

He could go the Generation Adidas route.

MLS and U.S. Soccer partner for Generation Adidas, a program that identifies the nation's top young players and provides incentives for them to become a professional player more quickly, promising higher salaries and guaranteeing a college scholarship if a professional career doesn't pan out initially.

Wow, good deal if you can get it. No wonder Adidas is charging $250 - $300 for soccer boots these days

congrats! Hope he does really well and blazes a path for other NTX kids. It just takes a couple of NTX kids to make it before the rest of the world stands up and takes notice of the area.

I'm not saying that it certainly helps if you ol' man is from there, and he played professional soccer, but....

I'm really surprised this story isn't getting more coverage on this site than it is. A relatively unknown 18 year old Yank (American) getting a chance at a Championship side is a very Cinderella-esque story. An American getting signed is one thing, an American getting signed and immediately earning first-team playing time is another thing altogether.

There's a chance that Conor starts this Saturday against Coventry. The Coventry/Derby match on Saturday (6AM) is on TV as well (Fox Soccer Plus).

Registered just for this post? Hmmm.

Why should it surprise you? A majority of the posters on this forum do not follow football (soccer) anywhere else other than at the youth level. If it wasn't for their own kids playing this forum would look like TM.

I don't have a son (at least that I know of), so prior to today there was no need to register on the boys side. I'm a regular on the girls side.

It actually does help if your ol' man is from there because it does not count against the foreign born quota.

I believe the biggest thing his Irish passport benefits is the visa issue. I'm not all that familiar with the visa process, but I believe foreign born players must have some national team experience and/or be able to prove they are extraordinary in order to get a work visa.

Am i missing something? We have an American who appears to be good enough to play on the first team (at least initially) on a club that is in the Championship League (just 2 years ago in the Premiership) and I haven't heard any talk about him regarding our national teams. Is he on any of the national team squads?

As far as I know he's not played in the US National team pool, but according to one of the articles I posted above, he could be playing for the Irish national team soon!
I know I'll be up early tomorrow watching for his first start!

Nah, go for it I say. Plenty of time to come back and get that education with a 2 year contract and you’re mere pup. Why not try and live out a well deserved dream.

Must say I only saw him play a few times. Believe he's a 92, played with Texans Academy last time I saw him.

I thought he played well for his first game considering his age, location and so on. He got out after 71 minutes but I would assume that's to be expected for an 18 year old. He was unlucky a few times, had a few good crosses, thought he was a bit timid in one or two situations but you can see the potential in the boy and the next few months will show more.
When my son woke up he watched the game with me and he remembered seeing CD at BlueSky sitting in the grass and juggling the ball and how impressed he was that somebody was able to do that.

Now that is what all of this is supposed to be about. Father/Son time = priceless! NTX lad playing at that level = Priceless! Paying for select soccer= pricey, but worth it!
