TWC 2017 Cancelled

Post by stangs on 1/21/2017, 10:13 pm

Despite very little rain and city fields open, AYSES had decided to cancel their tournament despite the fact they own their own fields and could easily play the games. Very disappointing, will never drive out of town for this tournament again. Good job on money made and saved by not playing tomorrow.

Ayses fields were spongy Saturday, after the thunderstorms rolled in Saturday night I am sure they were swamped. Bet the dirt parking lots would have been real fun.

Invest hundreds of thousands of dollars on your own fields, and then tell us how you let teams play on them when they are wet.

Until cities and clubs build complexes where all fields are turf, cancellations are going to happen. If you can't deal with cancellations, play an indoor sport. Basketball and volleyball games almost never rain out.

Should be lovely during the summer. Hopefully they have someone monitoring those soccer frying pans.

It's the darned if you do darned if you don't. Ayses have have 13 years of tournaments by my math that's 26 tournaments. Of which 2 were cancelled due to weather. It's not ideal but it happens. If you build turf it is bad on the body so now you have injuries. If you play in the rain, it tears up the fields resulting in costly repairs.

Dom, have you seen the ice storms out here it can even cancel indoor games. ( Heck even with the threat of snow in the forecast)

In shorty you enter praying the weather will co-operate. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. Fields were a slip-n-slide on Saturday. If you don't cancel early you get another set of issues. It's a battle no matter what happens. Thanks for trying Ayses. Can't fight the weather though.

If they are doing that, I don't think they will be any good. Nobody will maintain those fields and I'm sure they will be torn up within a year or two. It would be a huge waste of money.

Did the TWC 2017 have a "Play Guarantee" like the one U90C offers with its tournaments? If not, then something to consider next time. Soccer is expensive enough as it is and it sucks paying for something you don't even get.

From the tournament webpage:

"Exciting News!!! The Texas Winter Classic has a full refund guarantee if tournament is canceled before any games are played. To qualify, the teams will have registered and paid by the deadline date."

Then it appears the OP should not be complaining, and the comment "Good Job on money saved and made" should be retracted. People should be applauding the decision instead, and demand that more tournament organizers will follow the lead of U90C and now AYSES and offer the same type of guarantee.
