Any ideas of collecting Credit from previous club

    Post  98Dad2010 on Sun Aug 29, 2010 8:53 pm

After working many local events over the past few years, I have a credit balance at my son's previous club. In June I had submitted a check request for mileage for all of his games from last year. Still to this date, the club hasn't refunded me for the mileage from the check request. The amount in just under $1.100. I even gave them the option to transfer that credit balance to one of my newer clubs and I'm not getting any response now. Anyone experience this out there and know what steps I should take?

Why are you getting mileage for going to his games? Have I been missing out? If there is some kind of breach of contract, and if you sent a demand to be paid with no response, then I guess a lawyer or a small claims court is the next step.

Yes, once your yearly dues are paid in full, you can request reimbursements on soccer related merchandise and or travel (including mileage).

Why did you want until June to turn in the expense report for the prior year? If you have an agreement make sure that there is not a time period in which these expense reports need to be completed. My company will not reimburse for any expense over 60 days.

Both clubs that I've been associated with were 501c3 organizations. We were told up front at both clubs that if you leave the club with fundraising money left in your account, that money either stays with your team or goes back to the club. No "refund" checks are written.

See if the club will move that credit to another parent/kid account on the team that will write you a check for a percentage of the amount..

If the club was going to do that, why wouldn't they just suspend the no refund rule and pay him back directly? Or are we just taliking fraud?

Does this reimbursement apply to only certain clubs?
First time I am hearing about this...

Ok, you must be referring to volunteering mileage...

When you work at fundraising venues such as the AAC, and you have paid off your dues and uniforms, you can request a reimbursement for "soccer expenses", which can include many things. Air and hotel for travel tourneys is usually the top item, followed by shoes and gear, then followed by mileage and other misc.

Unfortunately for the OP, soccermom97b is correct - the money is a donation to the club. If you change clubs then there is no obligation to give you the money back. It's pretty poor of them to keep it, but technically they are allowed to.

If the money is still in your old team account, why don't you ask the manager to write a check to your new club/team. It's not their money, and unless your manager is a complete ***, they should not want to keep it.

    OTS is right on here...

No one in their right mind should withhold paying back the money that was earned by someone volunteering. I was only a manager for 4 years, but financial accounting, while not fun, wasn't particularly difficult, unless paychecks were off on time spent volunteering. Now that was a whip, but still less on me than those having to chase down the corrections.

This falls under the same category (but in reverse) of a family not completing their financial commitment to the team. Same solutions there too... You just hope decency prevails (and no, it doesn't always).

Either way it has happened (club to the family or family to the club)...

People, just do what is friggin morally/ethically right. That is not too much to ask.
