Going back and looking at the results from last week, there are some interesting nuggets....like Solar Tezkol, who was really not on my radar at all, played all of their games really close. 1-0 loss to Celtic, 2-1 loss to FC Fast. Those are 2 pretty strong teams. Then lost 2-1 to Roma. I know it's 3 losses, but which game is the anomaly? They could sneak in if they play like they must have against Fast and Celtic.

Just heard from a a couple of buddies whose kids are on 3 different teams that 3 of the top 7 seeds in week 2 will be missing at least one starter, with one top team missing 3 from last weekend......i guess those were the teams that thought they would make it in rd 1? Could make for an interesting weekend...

Wow...interesting note Roo. I hadn't thought about teams/families that might have assumed this would be open weekend and now are faced w/ another tourny. I would imagine most #1 seeds from week one that are playing in week 2 probably can weather the storm - even w/o a starter or two...

The other elephant in the room for a few of these teams / kids who planned on a year of D1 and subsequent hope for DA - might there be a group of kids asking for a release? Will they be looking for D1 caliber competition for a year to prepare them for transition to DA...

From the parents of kids i talked to, the answer is no. I know of several 05 and 06 former D2 kids that are on DA rosters now. Just because a kid is in a D2 team, doesn't mean they are not DA material....i know of 3 kids that didn't play classic and are now on 05 and 06 DA rosters....

Top 4 seeds played on 7:30am games. No surprises. Dallas Rush and Solar Martinez punishing the lower seeds. Volkan beats Xtreme 3 x 1.

Your darkhorse prediction will become reality tomorrow if Juventud (already in) beats or ties TNT and Tezkol beats Roma ( already eliminated ).

Congrats to all the teams that have qualified already.  I'm not going to do all the math and yes Volkan has qualified since the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the bracket both have to play tomorrow so can't catch them despite being only 6 points behind.  Other teams that have qualified regardless.

D2 Qualified (in division order)  - Dallas Rush (Voutier), FC Dallas Youth Black (Mbemba), FC FAST (Donaghy), Solar (Martinez), Rayos (Martinez), FC Premier (Johnson) and Juventud (Gonzalez).

Only seeing 1 game reported for bracket I and J so far so not sure how those will play out.

I and J play 2 games tomorrow..

Congrats to Volkan for clinching D2 - cannot finish lower than 2nd.  Second spot in group A still up for grabs.  Legends plays Extreme tomorrow, winner is in.  A tie goes to Extreme on goal differential.

Actually, I think there is a way Volkan doesn't make it. If they lose and get shut out and the other game ends in a 3-3 tie they all have 17, but Volkan misses on tie breakers. Very unlikely, but possible.

Interesting to see some of the swings that took place.

Elite United, for example. They were ranked around 25th coming in.

All they had to do was win against FC Dallas Robertson last Sunday (which had earlier lost 3-0 to FC Dallas Blue and was ranked around 100th in North Texas) and they probably would have made it into D1 on tiebreakers.

They tied Robertson instead, and this week they lose their first two in D2 qualifying by a goal and are now PPL bound. Might just be the soccer gods sorting everything out, or it might just be a few bad breaks that cost them Classic League.

Does seeding and schedule in D2 works like in D1? Where top 10 teams play bottom 10 in the fall and they each other in The Spring?

First tiebreaker is head to head result in the 2nd round, so Volkan clinched on the first day by beating the other 2 teams in the running.

biggest heartbreak of the day?:  FC Dallas North was 10 seconds away from making D2 with a tie against Tigres FW.   A ball shot through the defense from near midfield found its way into the net on the far post for the Tigres win.

AAOS-Trevino advanced instead after beating Strikers.

Thank goodness you are here to help us with this knowledge.  I saw some of that game and Solar seemed to be right in it. Saw a great save by their keeper and the go ahead goal.

BTW- congrats to all the teams that qualified- including TNT.

Thank you Ron but yea the ref was calling every single little thing but then when big things would happen like leaning in pushing or the one with the ball getting tripped & not calling it was bad! Then she gets on our coach to get on to us for griping about the call when it's clearly out of hand! Then the sideline ref calling offsides when the kid was clearly behind the defenders when the ball was passed up to him twice it happened, it was clear who the refs wanted to win! But oh well the games are over now and the ones who deserved to go to D2 are going!! Very Happy

yeah the Classic League referees care about who wins a U11 D2 qualifying game. Rolling Eyes

Some of the reason that teams are in D2 (vs D1) or headed to Plano now is that they are not consistent in their play, will not show up for a game or for a half, or in Volkan's case, bad luck. TNT, Roma and Solar all proved that this weekend, and any of them could have won the last D2 spot in their group, although arguably the better 2 teams qualified.
