I've seen many defenders that could easily move into a forward position and be sucessful...on the other hand, it's rare that a forward can move to a defense position and look confident.

In fact, most the time the forward gives a half-a try because he/she doesn't think they "should have to" or "understand why" coach put them as a defender.

What really gets to me is to hear forwards or mids yell at the defenders after a goal is scored. My first thought is...what did you do to keep the ball on the other end of the field away from your defenders..??

How many times have we seen the keeper or defender get a chance on the field up front and score because they work their butt off attacking every ball as if were their last day to ever play soccer...

Very good points - in addition, don't like the yelling at the keeper for a routine play gone wrong. When that happens to a fwd, it's met with 'nice try'. Funny how that works.

Rarely remember all the strikeouts, only the homeruns (for both the batter and pitcher).

It never is either/or in regards to offense and defense...it requires a certain degree of both. Rams and the Ravens were polar opposites when they won Super Bowls...but the Rams could play a little D and the Ravens actually had a little offense. For soccer, defending one on one is not easy, nor is putting the ball in the net game in game out. Perspective is best achieved by spending some time at both positions. Some parents fight it when their kids get moved to one position over another. That is short-sided IMO, especially in the younger years.

Coaching Pee-Wee football years ago, I had a talented running back who gripped at the lineman for not blocking...so I forced him to play Left Guard for the rest of the game...and he never complained outwardly thereafter. He was a good RB, but had a poor attitude, and just needed some perspective.

And if "the forward gives a half-a try because he/she doesn't think they "should have to" or "understand why" coach put them as a defender"...that is not can/can't but will/won't. There is a difference and I would suggest that player has bigger problems than soccer. :-)
