I tried to put the data into a table but I'm not smart enough to figure that out. Maybe someone else can do so and make it easier to read.
Preseason rankings are based on what was posted on the CL website standings page before first game. They appear to be the same or very similar to the QT seedings. Not suggesting that they were correct or that they were in fact "rankings" but the best available information.
Division 1
Preseason Rank Team Name Current Position in the Standings after Fall Delta
1. FCD Premier 4 -3
2. Texans (Gall) 1 +1
3. Wizards 6 +3
4. Solar Red 13 -9
5. TFC 5 0
6. Solar 3 +3
7. Andro Red 7 0
8. Bandits 2 +6
9. FCD East 8 +1
10. DT Red 9 +1
11. Andro White 14 -3
12. ASG 15 -3
13. Tejanos 20 -7
14. Toros 10 +4
15. Tigres 12 +3
16. Liverpool 16 0
17. Stirkers 18 -1
18. Odyssey 11 +7
19. TFC White 19 0
20. FWFC 17 +3
Based on the delta, it looks like the biggest "surprises" are Solar Red, Tejanos and Odyssey, Bandits, and Toros.
Division 2
Preseason Rank Team Name Current Position in the Standings after Fall Delta
1. FCD 2 -1
2. Hurst 1 +1
3. Longview 5 -2
4. Chivas 3 +1
5. DT White 4 +1
6. Mitlan 7 -1
7. TFC Blue 10 -3
8. Comets 6 +2
9. Storm 9 0
10. Andro 8 +2
Doesn't look like any real surprises in D2. [table]

Bandits are no surprise, ranked too low from the start. Spring schedule for them is rough. 6 of the top 10. And Partain plays 8 of the top 10.

No argument from me on that one! QT seedings and thus "preseason rankings" offered very little respect to this top quality team.

I don't think you can judge "suprises" based on record and standings at this point of the season because the schedules in the Fall were extremely unbalanced. For example Odyssey is much higher than expected but they have also had a much easier schedule than many of the other teams in the bottom 10 (not picking on Ody - give them credit for taking care of business against the lower teams).
I think the question is whether there are certain teams having level of play that is much higher or much lower than expected (subjectivly speaking). I would say most teams are performing pretty much as expected based on pre-season tournaments and qualifying tournament play with a few exceptions:
- Solar Partain has been better than I expected.
- Toros after a slow start have come on to be better than they were early in the year
- Solar Red W-L record has been a dissapointment given that they won Plano Labor Day tournament. They have some athletes however so should still be considered dangerous for any team who is playing them
- Bandits are not a surprise. Everyone other than the QT seeding committee knew they were still a top 5 team. They had some problems in pre-season beating top teams so it will be interesting in the Spring to see if they can turn that around

Curiosity piqued.
Ody played 5 teams in the top 10 of the original seedings (1,2,3,6,7) and 5 teams in the bottom 10 (13,15,17,19,20). The average of the teams they played was 10.4. If you base it on the current standings, they also played 5 teams in the top half of table and 5 in the bottom. Completely average schedule. Lost to who they were supposed to lose to and beat 4 of the 5 weaker teams. Which puts them near the top of the weaker teams, as opposed to the bottom of the weaker teams.
Not really an example of a weak schedule. Nor that much of an example of overachieving, unless you consider they were doing it all with just 12 kids. Just further proof that getting 3 pts off your peers will really help your standings amongst your peers.
Ok...tangent over.

FC Premier only played 2 of the top teams, and lost to both.
Bandits played 3 and tied all three.
I think those two team will be in for a tough fight come spring.
Craft and Toros have already played 7 of the top teams, so they have a much easier schedule ahead of them.
Should get pretty interesting next season.

Bandits and FCD Premier are still locks for D1 regardless of their spring schedule. IMO, the top 9 teams right now may re-shuffle a bit, but they are locks for D1.
Toros, Tigres and Andro White will be in a dog fight for the last spot.

I agree with your objective schedule analysis and since you brought it up, I gotta ask you this: why do you think you only have 12 kids?

One reason is that the Ody practice facility is not centrally located. The coach also has a reputation for being loud at times (but after 3 months most players get used to it). Look at the coaches record-he has 3 teams in Classic and the 96 team which started in Plano is leading Classic D2 at the break point this year. That team rarely turns over players and have had several come back after leaving for 1 season. He knows how to coach!
