    Legacy Freedom Cup Cancelled

    Post  soccermom97b on Thu Feb 03, 2011 4:41 pm

    Coaches, Managers, Teams,

First, let us say thank you to all the teams who supported The Legacy Freedom Cup-2011 tournament this year. We had more than 216 teams apply to the event and were poised with an incredible weekend of great soccer and fun planned for all of our teams and families. Unfortunately, this extraordinary, weather event we have all experienced, while historic in nature, has yielded unplayable conditions. The cities who own the complexes have closed all fields.

At this time, the Legacy Freedom Cup 2011 tournament has been canceled.

Regarding refunds, last year the Legacy Freedom Cup refunded more money than any other tournament in North Texas history. While 50% is the norm, we refunded more than 60% of the team money last year and will do even better this year.

In 2010, after the tournament cancelled due to 16" of rain and saturated fields early in the year, we decided to purchase "weather insurance" to help the tournament safeguard to an even greater extent the teams' monies. And so we did. We purchased rain insurance for this weekend. Unfortunately, we did not insure against snow and ice. It has been determined that snow and ice were the cause of the cancelation, not rain, so our purchase of insurance has not yielded us the dividend intended.

However, we are resolute in our goal to refund the maximum amount possible to each team. It matters to us. We are currently in the process of bringing together the expenses of the tournament. For those of you who may be unaware, money is spent on the tournament long before the weekend happens. These expenses include but are not limited to: medals, referee assignor, scheduler, got soccer scheduling, giveaways, trophies, deposits on equipment, communication systems, banners, .etc. Once the expenses are covered, all remaining money will be refunded.

Checks will be made payable to managers and sent to managers' addresses that are in the GOT SOCCER team accounts. It is critical that the contact information is up to date and accurate.

While it is not the outcome we wanted for the tournament, it is the right outcome given the weather conditions. Our top priority is the health, safety and enjoyment of the team and the players. We wish all of the teams a great spring season, and hope that next year you will again consider supporting the Legacy Freedom Cup.
