    Spring 2011 - Week 5 (Game 6)

    Post  soccer23 on Tue Mar 01, 2011 9:56 pm

Looked like some pretty good picking by the group last week. Here we go again. Maybe the March winds will be slightly less miserable than the February winds. Not sure that it can get any worse than Sunday. Saw some 11 year old goalies punting the ball 70 yards in the air--only to turn around and have some 15 yard punts in the second half.

    Good luck to all.

    D1

TFC White 1 v. FCD East 4 (Poor boys at TFC White not catching any breaks in the schedule this week)
Liverpool 2 v. ASG 3 (ASG gets one late to win it)
Tigres 4 v. Tejanos 1 (Tigres hang on to the 10 spot another week but Toros and Andro White fast on their heels)
Bandits 4 v. FCD Premier 0 (Bandits remain stingy)
Andro Red 1 v. Texans 2 (Another test for Texans. I think they come out on top again)
Solar 2 v. Wizards 1 (Wiz slipping. Thought maybe the tie on Sat. would turn around. Think they are better than they have been playing though.)
TFC 4 v. Solar Red 1 (TFC going to challenge Bandits for 2nd)
Odyssey 0 v. DT Red 2 (Red smothers Odyssey with defense)
FWFC 0 v. Toros 3 (Toros bounce back after tough 2 loss weekend)
Strikers 1 v. Andro White 3 (Andro pushing for the10th spot--can they get there?)

    D2

Chivas 2 v. Longview 1 (Chivas look like a lock to stay D2)
Mitlan 1 v. Andro 2 (last 4 games are important for the bottom 5 - separated by just 4 points)
Texans White 2 v. Hurst 3 (Hurst bounced back after anomalous loss to TFC-tougher game here but still get win)
Comets 1 v. FC Dallas Youth 3 (FCD locked in a battle royale with Hurst for the 2nd spot)
Storm 1 v. TFC Blue 3 (Blue has improved over the fall and looking much better)

Liverpool 2 v. ASG 0 (Liverpool d will stop ASG)
Tigres 4 v. Tejanos 1 (Tigres stronger team)
Bandits 4 v. FCD Premier 0(Fc Dallas not as strong as I thought ,Why are they the the premier team ,will get tested with the top 5 teams) .
Andro Red 1 v. Texans 0 (Like to see Texans go undefeated this year but Andro is strong team . Texans will dominate the game but solar scores at the last minute .
Solar 0 v. Wizards 1 .(Wizards has better forwards and that will make the difference )
TFC 4 v. Solar Red 1 (TFC stronger and more aggressive)
Odyssey 0 v. DT Red 2 (D Texans always improving will fight for top 4 next year)
FWFC 0 v. Toros 3 (Toros not as good as i remember what happened?
    Strikers 1 v. Andro White 0 (?)

I watched a a few of the games last week, one in particular FWFC & Texans.. For the most part of the game it was pretty even until the second half, when the Texans speed skill and passing took apart FWFC. My point FWFC has a very good team. I think they are going to turn in around in the remaining 4 games. I'm going to pick them over Toros. I know they have played many times before, and they have a 2-1 advantage on the win side of things. Here are my picks

    FWFC 2 Toros 1
    FCD 3 TFC White 1
ASG 2 Liverpool 1 --- ASG is better
Tigres 3 Tejanos 2 -- Tejanos are getting better. No win this week.
Bandits 1 FCD Premier 2- Upset of the week.. FCD can be good and then again they can be sometimes just average.. This week will be a good week for FCD.
Texans 2 Andro Red 1 - The Texans are way to tuff. If we have the wind like last weekend then this could be close.
Solar 1 Wizards.. I saw the Wizards last week. They are not the same team from last season.. Solar takes the win.
TFC 4 Solar Red 1. I think the only team that can beat Texans Gall is TFC. Solar is good but not strong enough.
Odyssey 1 Texans Red 4.. Red is probably the most improved team in Classic this season. On the other hand Odyssey is going in the other direction. I think the Coach of Odyssey probabaly has worn the kids out.
Andro White 2 NTX Strikers 1 - This could be a close game.. I think Andro has to much attack for NTX to stop..

Upset Game of the Week Very Happy
    FWFC 2 Toros 1

wow, the opinions are all over the place this week. Anyone notice rain on the forecast for Saturday?

FCD East 4-0 TFc White--East will be top5 before seasons end
    ASG 2-1 Liverpool--ASG improving
Tigres 2-1 Tejanos- I really thought Tejanos would dig out of the basement in Spring. But here we are. They have good athletes. Shaking my head here.
Bandits 1-0 Premier--those of you picking a 4 goal win here are off base. Premier is a very good team!
Andro Red 0-2 Texans Gall--Score may be close, game will not be
Solar 0-0 Wizards--Wiz will go down swinging, don't underestimate them
TFC 2-2 Solar Red--If they can slow down TFC forward, Red has a chance
Texans Red 3-0 Odyssey DT Red has it going now, lookout anybody
Toros 2-0 FWFC--Toros too tough, forwards fast enough for a goal or 2
Strikers 0-2 Andro White-may not be this close

    D2

    chivas 1-0 Longview
    Mitlan 1-0 Andro
    Texasn 0-2 Hurst
    Comets1-3 FCD
    TFC Blue 1-2 Kernow

I think the cat is out of the bag as the Wizards coach has gone back to playing soccer, instead of coaching. Not sure what you saw on Sunday, but I saw a team that looked a lot like last Fall. Premier's goals were a dropped ball by the goalie and a launch from outside the box carried by the wind. Nothing to take away from FCD, but the Wizards possession was plenty good....game should have ended a tie. I felt sorry for the little goalie....

For my statistics I am using all 15 matches. If you feel comfortable please go ahead and make a prediction on them all. The more predictions we get in the more accurate the collective group tends to be.

the andro/texan match up is the only 2 undefeated teams in the league. looks like a tie is about the best andro could hope for, that txn offense is really potent. i think ML may have trained the kids on both of these teams.

FCD East 2 TFC White 0 (East totally dominated game with and without wind. TFC goalie played well taking a constant rain of shots on goal with multiple cross-bar saves as well. East needs to remember this game because if this was against a top ten team they can't leave that many goals off the board.)

Not sure but I heard FCD Premier beat Bandits 1-0. But I heard it was a very bad call that gave Premier a set shot which resulted in the winning goal.

I am surprised by the Solar/Wizards match. That was our game of the week.

Figured that TFC Wells would push push hard. They have been on a goal spree this spring. If this holds the final week will be quite a build up match with Texans Gall.

GoldenGoal - Thanks for the analysis. I know it was an early game. I had heard it was dominated by FCD but that TFC defense was holding strong overall. Not sure if we can get some insight into that.

    Hey SoccerXXX,

You asked for further clarification on the FCD East game. Well there was no holding strong by the TFC White team... East had wave after wave of shots just hit the cross-bar 3-4 times and missed goals slightly to the left too many times. And on the many many times East drove through the White's 18 they launched it straight to the goalie time and time again. However, I believe I did also make a point that there were also 2 or three great saves by the TFC goalie. So I give the goalie and cross-bar a lot of credit or this one would have be ugly. Easily could have been 6 or 8 to 0. But as I said in my first comment, East needs to capitalize on it's opportunities. Also, East has been known not to be the best early game team from past history.
