    Ineligible Player rule

Post  TxHunter on Sun Mar 13, 2011 9:52 am

So what happens when it is proven that a team is playing with an ineligible player during league play? Is the club, coach and/or player sanctioned? How many games are forfeited?

Playing an ineligible player is an automatic one year suspension from all NTSSA activities if proven before an A&D committee. It is a huge issue because of the liability issues involved.

Actually it is always being questioned in the minds of some people but in fact very rarely occurs. Most coaches have two teams. Just for the sake of keeping the math simple lets figure 15 players per team at 2K to 3K perplayer is 60K to 90K per year minus expenses for a part time job. Economics keeps coaches/clubs in line as far as eligibility.

Ah, but you are talking about the big clubs. Some small clubs and most independents due not have fees that high and the coaches are not paid $1400 or more each month... Hence, the opportunity opens up bigger to use a ineligible player. I'm sure some coaches use the don't ask, don't tell mind set. Does anyone know if any team/club has been caught using an ineligible/player in the last 3 years?

Having been a part of a hearing on this exact topic, here is the answer:
    1. The game(s) that can be established as having an un-rostered player are forfeited. Note - this does not mean all games for the season, but generally only 1-2 where they have proof at the hearing of the violation.
    2. The coach and any assistants with knowledge are suspended for 1 year.
    3. No action is taken against the player

Player failed a roster check and photos from earlier game showed he played. Since we had no other teams game photos, only proven games were forfeited.

Do roster checks happen every so often?
How about, say, beginning of spring CL season or before Dallas Cup coming up soon?

Two seasons ago, the 94 Kicks team in DII forfeited every game for this reason and the Coach was suspended for one year (though he was coaching the reincarnation of the team the next year from the sidelines untill someone finally put pressure on the league to keep him out. Don't know what proof established the ineligibility.
