    pro's and con's of becoming a team manager

    Post  Ochocinco on Mon Mar 14, 2011 11:29 am

    Slow week ahead..here are some:

    Pro's:
    * Discounted/free club and tournament fees for your bb.
    * Authority position..delegation of grunt work (i.e money collection to Team Treasurer).
    * First hand access to team families' personal info/situation.
    * Access to coaches' sideline during games/fill in for coach when he is absent (learning opportunity).
    * Free advertisment for your place of employment (or better yet own business)
    * Expert on using the Bc (blind copy) feature on your favorite e-mail program.
    * More difficult for the coach to cut your bb is he's borderline making the team.
    * Everyone will be nice to you and will try to get on your good side (at least initially).
    * Keeps you busy if you ain't got an 8-5 job.

    Con's:
    * Ongoing fee collection/payment to coach/club.
    * Out of pocket expenses for delinquent families or stuck with unsupportive parents.
    * Listen to all the parents' drama.
    * Stuck filling in for coach when he is absent at games and practices.
    * Send 1000 weekly emails (annoying especially when inclement weather is looming).
    * Wish you could recall some copy/paste inadvertently sent e-mail.
    * Wanna stop being the TM? you will burn at least one bridge.
    * Everyone will eventually talk about something that they would have done better in your place as a TM.
    * Time consuming.

    and many more....

    I heard of a team mom that ended up marrying the coach. Would that be considered a pro or a con? cheers

    Could work both ways. Additional responsibilities may actually be dumped on the team manager. I know one who actively seeks untapped talent in other leagues to recruit. Shouldn't this be the coach's deal? Just saying...
