I have never understood the need to bring one down in order to lift yourself up. I think there are good players from all the clubs. I will only speak for AYSES though because I know the facts there.
I think the biggest mistake the DOC made was to merge with other clubs. I think the club would have been further along if it had stayed on its own based on what they did before the merger and what I see happening now since they became AYSES again. He tells me he is not going to do it again.
AYSES is a relatively new club compared to Texans, Solar and Andromeda. I think it is remarkable what they have accomplished given its size and age. They have four state championships, three of which were won before the whole academy thing. There is therefore no excuse there that other teams were watered down because of the academy.
On the issue of having players in college, keep in mind that the 91's was the first AYSES team to graduate, and the 92 had a bunch of players that were younger and are graduating this year(Emmitt and Alex among them). Also two of the 92 players went to Europe and are now playing for FCD academy since AYSES did not have a 93 team. A few of the 92's did not want to play soccer in college for whatever reason. Having said that, all their 91 players earned college scholarship, except for two players who did not want to go to college. The 92 players that wanted to play in college are playing in college on scholarship and more of them will be playing next year after graduating. The fact is that AYSES players are playing college soccer all over the country.
On having players play at the highest level (since you are mentioning players who only played for various clubs for a while), I just want to mention that Daniel Henandez and Bryan Leyva (both currently with FCD pro team) played with AYSES 92 team coached by DOC for two years. Emmitt Kumeh played for the Youth National Team for a while and Kevin Olali was in the National Team Pool. In addition to those two, Tony Santibanez, Saul, Eric Fuentes (played with AYSES for two years) played for the Regional Team. For a small club that is pretty good.
I think you will hear more about AYSES players playing at the highest level in the coming years as the club establishes itself as an independent club.
