With the activity on the U14 thread about academy starting up, I was thinking about what is the best way to develop the kids and change the face of soccer in the US?
IF you were the head of US soccer, what would you suggest?
My thought is Soccer in the US will never be what football, baseball and basketball are until we have soccer at the middle school, and highschool level for all schools and the best players play for those teams. Additionally, the MSL will have to take on greater importance for the younger kids.
Kids get better when they play a lot of soccer. They play a lot at a young age because they want to be like the guys on TV or win for their school. We watch a lot of EPL at my house and my kids want to be like Bale, Berbatov, Dempsey and Holden, not the NFL players. However, most families do not have access to EPL and a lot of soccer.
OVerall, I think the changes in Academy and club teams will not due much to change the overall landscape of the US talent. Additionally, I am not the US will ever be a soccer powerhouse.
