    Dallas Cup scores

Post  Freeatlast on Sun Apr 17, 2011 10:41 pm

Couple of interesting scores from the 1st day (well, to me anyway):

FCD knocked off the Barcelona representative in the Supergroup. Nice feather in the cap.

In the U13 boys, Solar won 14-0 over Guadalajara. Did they send a rec team?

Heard the Gudalajara team was a super U10 team trying to play up

Barcelona score a surprise. But they are a year younger.

As to U13 score, until Dallas Cup changes the first tie breaker to something other than total goals scored, you cant fault anyone for scores like this.

All 4 of the U14 teams participating won their games yesterday, very good start for the local teams. FCD Premier, Solar Red, Andromeda White and DTR.

DT # 73 second yellow was a bad call that really changed the game, playing a man down.

Foul language a 'bad call'? I don't think so. Yellow was for the foul. Red (not second yellow) was for foul language being yelled at the ref by #73.
Did not do much to change the game. DT still played their type of game and Arsenal figured it out. Not a great game to watch. Earlier games were much better.

    So true.
That was a poor showing of the top team of Texans DA. Long balls over long balls trying to dump it over Arsenal's defense.

I agree Arsenal played well; the second yellows which give DT # 73 a red was a bad call it changed the game. #73 seem to be the heart of the team (offensively) with him gone DT really didn’t do much in the second half.

The game was about what I expected. Arsenal passing and movement vs Texan dump-chase and set pieces. Playing with 10 men against a team like Arsenal is brutal.

    Day 1 Recap:

Sounds like Barcelona made quite the charge towards the end of the match. The U19 Solar squad also smashed in their game 8-0.

Looked like the lakehighlands varsity squad against the arsenal men's club. Embarrassing for the texans. Get ball kick it way up field hope someone outruns defense, rinse and repeat

This Pualista team is killing Real Salt Lake. Paulista is raining in shots after shots. It's pretty fun to watch! 4 - 1 so far.

Are these the top U19 teams/players for Arsenal and Barcelona? Did they bring their starting 11 for these teams or mix up starters and reserves? If this is the top FCD team beating the top Barca team at this age level that is pretty impressive.

I did see the Arsenal - Texans game last night and could not believe the difference between them; size, passing, skill, physical play, team speed...

Not there. I was watching the Barca boys on the live web feed. Cathcing bits and pieces. Japan just scored to knot it up 1-1. The Japanese are physically dominating Barca.

Regarding the Arsenal game, I heard the same thing Ansel posted earlier. Boot it up top and hope the speedy forward can out run the defense.

The Japanese forward overpowered the Barca defenders that started from a cross on the right flank. Nice goal from inside the 18. I believe it was a left foot shot. Buried the net...

Texans had 1 player #73 with speed. He got past Arsenal a few times early in the 1st half and caused some problems for them. Texans were playing it over the top to him and he could fly. After he went off with second yellow, they were done. Overall, the Arsenal team was much bigger and faster.

Well yeah I think we could say that Texas and the US in general, until very recently with FCD locally and the supremacy of the spanish soccer on the world scale, have mainly been trying to emulate english soccer. Big physical boys playing long balls in he box. Now you can't beat the cat at his own game... Wrong choice Texans !
I am so happy the spanish team and the spanish championship is showing another way. Viva Barcelona (they won 2-1 by the way)

I think you are right that the passing style eventually wins out but that not what I saw watching Barcelona V. FC Dallas yesterday. FC Dallas played kick ball with there goalie getting the assist on one of their goals with a kick up to a speedy forward. The third goal looked offsides and the Barcelona kids stopped playing. A mistake, but probably a bad call as well.

Overall, I think Barcelona were the more skilled kids but the kickball style of FC Dallas won out.
