The Special Olympics of Texas is this weekend at UT-Arlington. The soccer will be at the soccer fields behind Swift Elementary School at Fielder and Mitchell streets in Arlington. If you are not occupied with any tournaments, why not head over and lend a hand shagging balls or cheering on the kids. I have found that many youth soccer players get a real appreciation for how fortunate they are by helping out. Both of my boys have refereed the games before they went to college. One of the Solar Girls teams showed up to help at the local games in April and were very much appreciated.
We will particularly need volunteers in the afternoon (about 1 PM to about 4) on Saturday, as that is when generally the volunteers all leave, and it is up to the referees and a few helpers to shag balls for these kids.
I realize this is going on during the Champions' League Final, but I am recording that.
If you do want to volunteer, you can come straight to the fields and sign up there. I would be very happy to meet you.
