ASG and Andromeda FC Merger Announcement

    Post  yellow-card on Fri Jun 10, 2011 12:33 pm

Dear ASG and Andromeda FC Members,

We wanted you to be the first to know about the recent partnership agreement reached between our respective clubs. Andromeda FC has secured the USSF Academy Status and US Club Soccer Pre-Academy Status, primarily as a result of the exceptional coaching and business leadership of this new club. In addition, both Classic League and Lake Highlands Girls Classic League have granted Andromeda FC the byes associated with last year’s Andromeda Soccer Club, a completely different legal entity with no connection to the current Board of Directors or 501(c)(3). In short, a new non-profit organization led by John P. Watters (Chairman) and Mike Uremovich (Director of Soccer Operations) has secured a portfolio of soccer assets (Academy/Pre-Academy/byes) that enable Andromeda FC to compete at the highest levels.

ASG has a tradition of development excellence led by Dave Dir and a loyal group of coaches. With the addition of the US Soccer Federation Academy two years ago, it became clear that the marketplace had changed. As the Pre-Academy launches this year, the elite track continues to start earlier and now begins at the U13 age group (’98 birth years). ASG desired to align with the USSF roadmap in order to provide the best development opportunities for its young athletes. While the percentage of these Academy athletes that make it to the Professional or National Team ranks will always remain low, it is becoming increasingly clear that college coaches around the country are beginning to focus their recruitment efforts on the Academy Programs. As a result, ASG has decided that it’s in the best interests of its young athletes, committed coaches, managers, and parents to merge its teams into the Andromeda FC club, where the best of the two clubs can come together to redefine youth development.

Dave Dir will become the Executive Director of Andromeda FC, Mike Uremovich will serve as the Director of Soccer Operations, and both Dave and Mike will join business and philanthropic leaders John P. Watters, Michael Corboy, and Scot O’Brien on the Board of Directors to lead the club forward. The combined teams will share each other’s fields, coaches, and general network in the soccer community to accelerate the growth of Andromeda FC. The combined club is looking forward to aggressively executing the plan to create a great choice for youth development in the greater Dallas community.
Our unified mission is clear: Provide a top-tier, professionally-managed soccer club whose sole purpose is to inspire and develop youth soccer players in a safe, challenging, and competitive environment that will also generate opportunities for the elite student-athlete to pursue the sport at highest levels, including college and national team soccer programs. We believe quality matters most: in coaching, in teamwork, in player development, and in character.

Andromeda FC promotes the development of young men and women into future leaders in the sport and respected members of our community. Our goal is to create an environment of high intensity and high integrity for our young athletes, recognizing that every player should have the opportunity to compete at the highest level possible given their current state of development and level of commitment. By virtue of the combined club’s Academy and Pre-Academy standing as well as a host of D1, D2, and D3 byes, Andromeda FC presents a way forward for like-minded young athletes, families, managers, and coaches.

Our combined club will encompass approximately 25-30 competitive teams, including U16 and U18 Academy Teams led by Aaron Jacobs and Jay Dane, respectively. The Pre-Academy coaches include Jay Dane for the U13 team and Mike Uremovich for the U14 and U15 teams. ASG and Andromeda players will have an opportunity to play with their current teams or try out for the Pre-Academy and Academy Teams. While there is a solid talent pool among the combined players at each age bracket and level of play, we would appreciate your efforts to get the word out in the soccer community and make sure that players looking for a fresh new program are aware of Andromeda FC. We’re hopeful that you share our enthusiasm regarding this merger.

There will be updates on our respective websites in the coming days. Andromeda FC (www.andromedafc.com) will become the official combined club website effective before July 1, 2011. We feel great about this partnership and the opportunity to move forward with a cohesive program for our respective members.

    Good times ahead!

Executive Director Director of Soccer Operations

Now the chance for success for Andromeda FC just went up tremendously. This enables a viable option to Solar, Texans, FCD and even TFC. Variety and healthy options is a good thing. Good Luck Andro/ASG = Don't try and grow too fast. financial stability, ethical behavior, and keep soccer first.

I'm not so sure it is this simple. It looks like the new Andromeda is seeking to keep all of the Assets of the old Andromeda but none of the liabilities. It seems to me that a very good case could be made that since the new Andromeda has all of the same soccer assets (Classic League byes, Academy and Pre-Academy invitations), they are the same club and as such, would have to assume all of their liabilities.

I couldn't buy a new house and sports car and then change my name and avoid paying for them so I am wondering how the club can pull this off.

What is the current value of a classic league bye? A bye is not an asset like a car or house I would think. Especially if it's an invitational league and CCSAI can invite anybody. IMHO diversity is good and this provides NT soccer another option.

Wow.. all is good for Andro...this will certainly give a lot of kids/parents viable options! cheers
Now that they are back in the game, fully loaded with a 're-buy', maybe the DCC will revoke the now-completely-unnecessary n+1 ruling of a few weeks ago. Talk about having your cake and eating it too! affraid

Yes, basically, it's like being Charlie Sheen's girlfriend. You replace the old one. No one notices and you are treated the same as the old one, but called by a different name.

None of this could have happened if the USSF and CCSAI wouldn't have agreed to grant the same privileges to AndroFC that was earned by the core of it's players/coaches. If they wouldn't recognize AndromedaFC as such, we'd all be FCD/Texans by now.

Amazing their team count with the ASG partnership - maybe they could have kept the ATF afterall (j/k)?

It's called an asset purchase and transfer. There can't be two of you, but there an be two different legal entites. The new Andro went to Classic and USSF and bought byes/academy/pre-academy that old Andro forfeited and paid with with good will, promises, a performance bond, lease commitment etc.

Having already made the commitment to coaches and clubs, I would hope Classic does not reneg on the N+1 determination--a lot has already been banked on that, including a bunch of kids that are relying on it--pulling it out from under mid June would be pretty harsh.

Point taken... on the other hand, I guess you'd be OK with Andro/ASG
putting the required N+1 (9-10?) names on each of their two D1 97BB teams, turning that roster into DCC, filling the pre-academy teams (96/97) with other(mostly ASG?) names, then swapping the players around late summer so the club winds up with the original Andro players in pre-academy, while former ASG players inherit the bulk of the 2 D1 slots.. Nicely played, indeed! Wink

Actually, Andro was granted MORE than the same privilegss they earned - after all, none of FCD, DT, Solar etc got an n+1 reprieve Exclamation

Another way to look at it would be that New Andro lost a bunch of byes they would have kept under the 75% rule, and FCD, Solar, and Texans picked up a bunch with a mere N+1.

There is no easy solution. Leaving the rules intact and promoting teams that actually played filling spots voided leaves a bunch of talented Andro kids holding the bag because some individual screwed their organization and changing them screws the other teams that played hard and fell a little short, but could fill open spots with good players and teams. Since Classic apparently made a decision, I hope they stick with it. Doesn't mean I think it was the right one, but too much water under the bridge now.

NTX with only 3 academy programs seems limited. I don't think filling byes and academy with Andro remnants and ASG is perfect, but better than just Solar, FCD, and Texans, after a year or two. Seems a good move for ASG--not real up on their girls side, but their boys side seems to have been struggling lately--could be a good match and good for NTX soccer

It will be good for ASG. I remember when my older son started out at ASG, the majority of their teams were in D1. The 95s had two in the top 6 in U11, the 93s were in D1, and the 91s were in D1. The girls had similar numbers. These teams were followed up by some quality teams like the 97 boys.

But two things happened that changed the landscape that impacted ASG. The first was the emergence of FC Dallas as a major player in select soccer. Up until that time, ASG had a niche with their FC Dallas connections through Dave Dir, as players such as Bobby Rhine, Oscar Pareja, Steve Jolley, Drew Moore, etc... either coached or did skills training with the teams. This ended with FC Dallas in the game.

The other was the start of the Development Academy League. It is obviously really difficult to recruit and build teams against the 4 clubs with the Academy teams. They have the dream to sell, and they start selling the dream at an early age. Now ASG has teams in D2 and D3, but none currently in D1.

ASG saw tremendous growth in their early years, but in recent years have found it more difficult to hold together their older teams, as players leave for the big four, as my older son did last year.

This merger is a real positive for the remaining ASG teams. My younger son's ASG team finished third in D2 last year, and are poised to move into one of Andro's D1 spots. With all the movement to Preacademy, this should be a good year to move into D1. It is also good for ASG coaches, as it levels the playing field a bit for them. I think this merger will work out well for both clubs.

It will be interesting to see what the fees are this year. With a new club comes a lot of new expenses. OK, there is no more ATF to pay for but fees paid by Andro parents in previous years were obviously not going towards that anyway.

My experience when looking around with my youngest in U11 was that ASG fees seemed quite high - not sure why maybe current ASG parents can comment. Now the new club has put into place what appears to be quite a bid of overhead, including adding Dave Dir to the payroll in addition to other high-priced coaches. Not saying these guys aren't worth it, but have to admit I am dreading to see what the bill is going to be on July 1st.

If anyone has heard what the fees are going to be for the new club please let us know. Also if we can ditch the old Andromeda uni's in favor of something a little less bland I would happily pay for that.

Point taken... on the other hand, I guess you'd be OK with Andro/ASG putting the required N+1 (9-10?) names on each of their two D1 97BB teams, turning that roster into DCC, filling the pre-academy teams (96/97) with other(mostly ASG?) names, then swapping the players around late summer so the club winds up with the original Andro players in pre-academy, while former ASG players inherit the bulk of the 2 D1 slots.. Nicely played, indeed! Wink

Well said Eagle....I, too wish the best for both clubs. This is a positive move for both clubs as well as good for NTX soccer. Our experience with ASG and Andromeda were good experiences for my boys and at the time ASG was one of the more affordable clubs especially with multiple kids playing since they offered a sibling discount. Congrats to both clubs and all the best for a bright future!

I have a son on ASG and we were told that fees would be the same as the last few years.
