    Texas Lightning Puma Cup-97 Boys

Post  EastTexasSoccer on Tue Jun 21, 2011 3:45 pm

I know we're still in the "free-agency" & open practice time period, but I just wanted to know what current/future 97's will be competing in the Texas Lightning Puma Cup in July??? I hear it's a very good tournament to start the season off...

It is a good tourney for U11-U13 teams. Older ages seem not to have alot of interest.

For sure Texans Red West will be in this tournament. I'm about 95% sure that the new Arsenal 97 boys will be there as well...

Bb plays for TRW, and dd will be playing for Arsenal SC 97 girls.....

With so many teams close to Harold Patterson fields, you'd think Solar Red, FWFC, and maybe even Texans Red South... I'm willing to bet Texans White South might be in it....

    Any confirmations???

    I am guessing two brackets:

    Semi-Finals
    Bracket A winner versus Bracket B runner-up
    Bracket B winner versus Bracket A runner-up

    Championship

Before you read further, let me first claim my allegiance to Chelsea (Solar) for whom my BB plays for.

Predictions are as follows (based on E TX Soccer brackets of 4 advancing)

    Semis:
    Texans Red West
    Hurst United
    Solar
TX Lightning (wildcard of the tourny)

    Champion:
    Solar

Same teams as Randy except put FC Galaxy over TXLB...as the wild card, They dominated the group at Legends Invitational, and then knocked off a D1 team in final this past June.

Solar Red is returning 10...had 17 players July 1st, I think the roster is a full 18 now.

LUR is correct - 10 new players. All the Defense is back so no changes from last season.

My predictions are as follows: (don't know how the bracket will look though)

Top Two Seeds: Hurst United & Solar
Other Two Seeds: Texans & FC Galaxy

    Championship: Texans & Solar
    Champions: Solar

Should be a good tournament; I'm really missing these days. (damn BB got burned out)

Randee--I think you meant 10 returning players for SR. 5 players went to Pre-Academy (same club) 1 to Elite. Picked up 8 new players. Same defense returning. Should be a great season for SR.

I am completely shocked on how they did the brackets. Based on ETX Premier (formerly known as FC Galaxy)somewhat recent success; I thought they wouldve been in the Gold bracket. Also, why split the divisions in the first place???

FC Galaxy are trophy hunters. If you look at their history they always are in the Silver brackets whenever they exist in tournament. Since they don't play in Plano or Classic there is no data for the tournament officials to go off of. I have a great respect for their talent and style of play but they thy to avoid tough competition as much as possible.

    Trophy hunters: Agree
Style of Play: Umm...somewhat agree @ times
    Avoid tough competition: Disagree

They actually tried to convince my son to sign with them & I did to, but again he's burnt out. That being said, from my opinion: the team is playing the cards they're dealt when it comes to tournament play. They welcome tough competition @ the tournaments they can afford go to (ex: Dr. Pepper, XARA Winter, Presidents, & Legends)...The team has (6) NTX State Pool ODP Players & (2) Regional Pool ODP Players; along with good collegiate training with the coach from Tyler Junior College (Defending JUCO National Champions the last two years)on staff...

Not sure how Puma did the brackets, but they didn't use Got Soccer's rankings. Strikers are 34th in North Texas, but only becuase Got Soccer thinks we beat Andro's D1 team (we didn't, we beat Andro's D3 team). Texans RW is 38th, Hurst is 19th and FC Galaxy is 35th. Galaxy should be in Gold division and either Strikers or Texans move to Silver.
