It will definitely be an interesting weekend to see how every team shaped out after July 1st... Many teams had anywhere from 40-50% turnover due to the PA teams...

Congrats to Solar Red on winning the championship in the gold bracket this weekend.... It was two very hard fought games against our boys DTRW.... A 0-0 tie in the morning and a 2-0 win in the afternoon.... The boys looked like two weathered heavyweight champs taking the field after the 2nd half water break... Both teams played on pure heart going into the final 15 mins of that match...

Give that pesky midfielder on SR a pat on the back and an Ata boy"... Those were two great goals he put in on us.....

Solar Red is GOOD...had the pleasure of watching them play FC Galaxy (ETX Premier) & it was no competition @ all.

FC Galaxy should've taken a page from the Texans on how to defend Solar...on the other hand the Texans were out-played by FC Galaxy Saturday morning. Game finished 1-1, but FC Galaxy had 4 balls hit the side of the goal and pop back out. Texans only had 1 shot on goal the entire game. The only way they scored was on a free kick.

I don't know if I would go that far...

FC Galaxy played well and did have a couple of shots hit the side of the net, as did the Texans who had a couple of shots just wide of net. Congrats to FC Galaxy for a hard fought match. (Salute!)

Texans seemed to get better with each match with the 3rd match against Solar being their strongest. Look forward to seeing the team continue to gel as a group.

Congratulations to Solar on the tournament win. Well done!

Didn't see DTRW vs FC Galaxy...but DTRW really played excellent team defense in both games vs Solar, and deserved every bit to play in the championship game.

I don't think the FCGalaxy Boys would have wanted to see Solar again in the final. The first game was not pretty. Props to FC Galaxy for stepping into the gold bracket and giving it a go. I think they are a good team, but they definately need a new game plan for when they are overmatched.

    Oh and....Hurst....come one...siliver bracket...really?? Smile

love_your_refs: I agree...FC Galaxy was very much overmatched. Solar man-handled them like they were a U13 team...I will say this though: knowing FC Galaxy's coaching staff and talking to them after the game; they'll be prepared next time to make the adjustments accordingly. The coach is a person that takes the negatives and turn them into positive...I give them a lot of credit stepping up to the plate in the GOLD division and competing against team(s) way more superior than them.
They have offered my BB a spot on their team...seriously thinking about it after this weekend.

Dallas Texans already knew what to expect from Solar and FC Galaxy did not...if that means anything.

CONGRATs TO SOLAR & DALLAS TEXANS. Both were deserving...

Hurst was ready for gold division then FC Galaxy wanted in the gold division and Strikers had coaching conflicts with changing to silver so they were told by tournament director. Tournament Director asked Hurst if they would change from what I was told so they did.

PEEWEE you're correct. I'm the coach for ETX Premier (formerly known as FC Galaxy)and I did email the director last Tuesday to ask if we could move to the GOLD division due to better competition.

I really thought it would've been two brackets and the top two from both brackets would advance to the semi-finals. That all being said, it is what it is...the tournament was a great learning experience for my team. I do not regret moving to the GOLD division; as I look to play tough competition @ each tournament...

GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS THIS SUMMER, FALL, & SPRING...

By the way; our next tournament will be the Dr. Pepper Fair Play...what other teams will be competing???

As for the DR. Pepper tournament I'm not sure any classic league 97 teams will be playing in this one, due to the league starting that weekend. Correct me if I'm wrong.....

You are correct that CL play begins 8/20, the same weekend as the DPFP tournament. Should be a good chance for trophy-hunting. Wink

hoff1032: you're just too funny...if we wanted to trophy hunt I could settle for tournaments in E. Texas and/or Shreveport. We choose to come to D/FW because of the respect I have for the talent in that area. Fame, glory, and/or trophies are not important to me nor my parent/players; we just like getting away from ETX and playing the game we all love.

You'll notice I was not pointing out any teams in particular, simply identifying it as an opportunity. I applaud you seeking out a higher level of competition.

I've heard sore losers say the other team was loaded with guest players, over age players or unrostered players, but I really can't say I have ever heard a losing team say "wow their a bunch of trophy hunters" The fact is there are times when it is hard to see why certain local powerhouses go to a tournament where the field is no match. Easy gotssoccer points?

I was more impressed with the Galaxy than Texans. Texans came to play for a tie in the first game vs. Solar - think I counted 7 of their boys in their goal box in the first game. I don't think either Solar goalie touched the ball more than 2x each since most of the game was played in the Texans end.

Galaxy tried to matchup against Solar and just could not but they played a good game and did not stackup on Defense. Spoke to one parent on the Galaxay and he said that usually when their team pushes and shoves, the other team moves. In Solar's case, he said the boys looked frustrated and did not know how to matchup against a team that was bigger and stronger. Good reality check for them to see where they are at. I am guessing with how they played the Texans (watched part of that game) they are a bottom D1 team and a top level D2 team at worse case.

Championship game was a little better vs. Texans but ball was still on their side the field the majority of the game. Typical play from the Texans in stacking the box against stronger teams, much like Scott did last year which landed him in bottom half of D1. I would expect the same from this Texans team in Classic league.

Really Randee?? Do you really think the Texans coach said "boys I don't want to win. I want to TIE... Or the boys walked on to the field and said to each other "ok guys let's play for a tie"... I don't think so... What I do KNOW, is that the boys walked onto the field and said "ok guys win or lose, let's give it all we got"...

I wouldn't say we stacked our defense to the extent your putting it, our back 4 were jelling very well, and complementing one another throughout both games. 7 players in the back is what happens when your mids drop to help... As the first game wore on, our players gained more and more confidence in themselves... I mean here was this top 5 team in d-1 last year being held scoreless by a team that had just won 2 games all of last year in d-2...

I will say you are half correct on the part were you say Solar dominated most of the field of play on our end, but is that because your forwards were better than our defense, or just bigger, stronger and faster?... On the other hand you have to also say that Solars offense was dominated by Texans defense... Time after time Solars offense came up short when trying to finish... Was it due to the heat?, bad shots taken? or was it the Texans defenders were smaller, and that can cause havoc on tall players because of the low center of gravity a shorter play has, thus making it harder for a tall player to get around him....Or was it bad luck, I like unlucky better.. Whatever the reason the end result was still the same, nothing was going in...

You know to come on here and devalue what a team did against your bb's team is pretty audacious on your part... Isn't that what any team does when they are facing faster opponents? Maybe Galaxy's mids should have tried that, their outcome might not have been 6 goals scored against them... There is nothing wrong with the mids dropping to help. Last time I checked that was called teamwork.

I could come on here and say that Solar Reds recruitment of the tallest fastest, skill not required players they can find is pretty TYPICAL of them... Because let's face it, any other more skilled team would have scored more than 2 goals in almost 140 minutes of play... But I will not do that, because the contributions that my son brings to his team in no way translate to giving me the right to post whatever I feel like on these forums...

Please ladies and gentleman of the jury... Disregard that first part of the last paragraph.... I was merely trying to state a point...

What I will come on here and say is major props to the kid that scored the 2 goals. He pulled a Dirk Nowitzki, and said " don't worry about it boys... I got this".... Both times it was all him... He did what his Bigger/Faster/Stronger teammates could not do, and that was outmaneuver the defense shoot and score.... He didn't out run them, or push them out of the way, or impose his will on them... He simply played beautiful soccer and finished........... I stand up and say well done kid, well done...

    Too much, too soon.

Why would anyone go off like this on game on a pre-season tournament? That's a rhetorical question, by the way. I've been around soccer long enough to know why. I've seen it time and time again, and it's never pretty.
