Post  omega striker on Sat Jul 09, 2011 2:12 pm

where do they stack up with NTX? like say austin, houston, west tx,and san antonio areas since each of these areas have pre-academy and academy teams, what about their top leagues do they have their own classic leagues? do they have the same style or competition as the Ntx??? discuss Suspect

Couldn't find the premier results, but at the younger years (Premier League) - it's pretty similar, slight edge to NTX. Obviously, the indviduals are all over the place (look at the national teams - Cali rules that roost, but NTX has better depth than the rest of Texas from what I've witnessed. The top STX teams can play with the top NTX teams, but there's a larger drop off after the top 3-4. Houstonians/Houston Rush/Lonestar - all are on par with the top clubs here at the older ages.

OK has enough population to field a top team or two, but not a third (as usually proven in PL). I know the second best 97 boys team in OK last year scored one goal - they probably wouldn't have been D1 here. Their top team was very good (probably 3-5 range here).

It will be interesting with Pre-Ac as that will kill PL, but the teams should be made of better players (in theory). I think the top NTX PA teams will be very dominant in that setup.

Does anyone know if the Mexican leagues in Houston and San Antonio are extremely prevalent? Their select teams seem to be slightly lacking given their populations. I'm assuming the players are there, but the demographics just don't warrant creating the money grab that exists up here.

ok sounds good but NTX also has a mexican league so it's too bad they couldn't be added to the mix as well! Cool

The ESPN COPA tournament attempts such - there are some very good players, but the depth is better in the select teams. Keep in mind, a lot of the players in our Mexican leagues are also select players. I know that, but I don't know if it's similar in Houston/San Antonio (I'd assume so). Their select situations aren't as large as here for some reason (over zealous NTX parents, I guess - Houston has more money and a greater population, so it's odd they wouldn't control that situation).

In San Antonio, to play select, you have to be willing to travel as much as the pre-a will. That keeps a lot of kids out of it because their local leagues have such great competition. City leagues are huge there. High school age boys can play in youth league, for their high school, and be invited to play in the adult men's league. No need to call anything a Mexican League as majority of the population is Mexican heritage. City splits by SES, not race, and plenty of wealthy Mexicans on the North side of town.

My bb's team played a Houston team in the Championship game at the Presidents Cup regionals in Alabama. Both teams were undefeated going into finals...they beat us 4-1 and are playing in the championship game today in National Championship. Now granted, Presidents Cup is D2 6th and below but they are playing champions from all other regions in this tourny and didn't lose any games so far. They were with Southbelt and team is called Club Mexico
