    Too Little, Too Late

Looks like a few teams are still below the minimum for Classic League. Parents are likely getting spooked and looking at teams that already have the necessary minimum. Who all is in danger of not coming back next year?

Kickit, Any teams or age groups that you are thinking of? I definitely saw quite a bit of openings on the board but didn't really think those teams were in danger of not hitting their minimum.

Looks like a fishing trip here. I really doubt there are CL teams that can not field a team.

You can always round out a team with warm bodies.

With PA new as of this year, there were 8 new teams created out of thin air (96 PA & 97 PA times 4 clubs). Of course, this will steal players from all existing teams. And I think we can very safely say that 160 high level soccer players did not fall out of thin air to fill in the gaps. There are simply not enough U14s and U15s to go around. Teams are suffering and entire teams are disappearing.

To name a specific example, we know that Andro/ASG gave back one of its U15 CL D1 byes because they did not have enough kids to create two D1 teams.

Like free said you can always get warm bodies to fill out a CL roster and most clubs wont turn down the money. As far as the Andro team is concerned what you said is one side of the story. The other side is they had a team but were not granted N+1. Their slot was taken away. Andro fought them taking it and won. They persued two other CL spots that then fell thru. The coach then told his teaqm they did not have a CL slot early enough for them to get on elsewhere. CL and club politics at its worst. And no I am not affiliated with this team.

This is not true. Andro gave back the bye because it did not feel it could field a second quality D1 team, and chose to just field a D1 and a D2 team out of their 3 byes.

I'm sure there was some talk about moving the D2 team up to the D1 open spot. After all it would make the club look better having 2 teams in D1. I applaud Andro on the decision to give back the D1 spot because the D2 team would not have been ready for D1 competition.

Last year Solar took their PPL team and put them in D1 just to preserve that spot. That decision was paid for by the Solar kids being out matched in many games through out the brutal season.

I am thrilled that Andro did not follow this line of thinking. The kids on the D2 team will be able to compete against similar teams and get better as a result. This decision was based on putting the players first and CL rankings second. I recognize that Andro has had a checkered past, but it really sounds like they are heading in the right direction now.

What age group are you referring to regarding Solar? Last year's U15?

Yes and No. The D1 team will be made up of the core the ASG team that finished 3rd in D2 last year, with the addition of new players from various D1 and D2 teams. However with the defection of several D1 players to the PA, I expect this team to be very competitive.

The D2 team will be made up of some of the ASG D2 players and various other players. I expect this team to be able to hold their own based on the logic that D2 will not be as strong as it has been in the past as well.

But I will say Andro had enough for 3 teams, but chose not to field a team that they did not think would have a chance of competing.

with so much talent leaving to the pa league, this would have been the best year for Andro to field their 3 teams with the weakest one going into d2. It was a bad move on Solar last year I agree... But the dynamics of the league are going to be totally different this time around. A lot of the CL teams struggled in finding players to fill a full roster.... I think they missed out on giving the bye back...

I wonder why they did not at least work a deal to take the FWFC D2 spot when they gave up their D1 bye (with FWFC moving into the Andro D1 spot)?
Surely they could have fielded a D1 team and 2 D2 teams?

All I know is that Andro had 3 CL spots and eventually decided to field 2 teams. Why? I am not sure. Soccer players, who want to play in CL, are not necessarily falling out of the sky this year. This is evident by the number of "teams looking" posts in June/July. Believe it or not, there are many great players in PPL/Arlington who enjoy being successful in those leagues. IMHO, it may have been as simple as not enough players to field 3 teams.

It's as stated. In the 97's there just wasn't enough quality to support 2 D1 teams, per the coaches assessment. This was announced in the final week of June tryout process, and did catch a few of us by surprise but made perfect sense. Why put out a D1 team that you know is not up to the task.

If we are talking 96s the team was intact but leaving andro when the crap hit the fan. They wanted N+1 for the team , not andro to keep bye. CL said no and gave it back to andro. They broke up a team over a bye they could not fill and in the end did not even want. Like I said before, soccer politics at its worst.
