Where are the 98s?

Post  DadofDefense on Fri Jul 15, 2011 8:09 am

It looks like the 98s are MIA in the upcoming tournaments.

There is no U14 division in the King Tut Tournament, the Tx Lightning Puma Cup, or the Adidas Cup (only made U7 & U8). Don't know about the Red, Hot, and Blue. I haven't seen an accepted teams list yet.

So, where are the 98s?

Many teams have opted to organize inter-club scrimmages to save on costs and to avoid 4-5 games in 2-3 days in 103° heat.
Other teams have taken the remainder of July off for vacations. I expect them all to reappear for Labor Day tourneys.

Flowers tend to wilt at 104 degrees, cactus don't. Women hate watching their BBs with makeup streaming into their eyes, while men ask their kids, "why aren't you running?"
That's why you don't see teams signed up. As for U7 and U8, we all know that the 04 and 03 parents are over-the-top crazy soccer parents. Razz

There has been a huge turnover in the 98 CL. Amazing to see a D1 team (TFC Royal) looking for 3 players in the middle of July! D1 quality players aren't just sitting around still weighing their options.

The make up of D1 and D2 may have the same team names but the kids will be totally different.

D1
-Solar- a hodge podge of kids(most TFC Royal)
-Tigres- are still looking for kids for starting positions, including Goalie!
-Solar Red- may or may not field a team
-TFC Royal- has some TFC Reagan kids and who knows what else, 3 spots still available
-Texans- most of the boys from Texans Red?
-FCD and FCD Andro- Mixture of FCD Premier and Andro and FCD Blue plus add-ons(remembering that the best of those group ended in Academy)
-Real Madrid, Tejanos, Pumas- All had a few special players. Did any of those get poached for Academy or other D1 teams?

D2
-Kicks- haven't heard a peep
-TFC Reagan- did all his players go to D1 teams? What kind of team will he field?
-Ayses Gold- Did they get better or worse?
-Texans Red-
-Liverpool Wilco- did he get poached? He's been stuck in D2 since U-11.
-FT Worth FC-
-FCD Blue- is there anything left for Renfro to coach with all the D1 spots taking players?
-Hurst- still posting for players
-Tyler Azzurri and Waco Blast- may be 2 of the stronger teams since they are so far away it is hard for their good players to change teams

So who has insight on these teams. I know we are all talking in our own little groups. Tell us who has done well and who is starting from scratch scratch

D1
-Solar- a hodge podge of kids(most TFC Royal)
-Tigres- Lost their best defender and keeper to FCD
-Solar Red- may or may not field a team
-TFC Royal- has some TFC Reagan kids and who knows what else, 3 spots still available
-Texans- most of the boys from Texans Red? Yes

D2
-Kicks- Lost their best player to FCD PA
-TFC Reagan- did all his players go to D1 teams? What kind of team will he field?
-Ayses Gold- Did they get better or worse?
-Texans Red- 3 or 4 left overs and who knows where the rest came from.
-Liverpool Wilco- did he get poached? He's been stuck in D2 since U-11.
-FT Worth FC-
-FCD Blue- is there anything left for Renfro to coach with all the D1 spots taking players?
-Hurst- still posting for players

D1
-Solar- a hodge podge of kids(most TFC Royal) Not as many of his boys remained as one may think.
-Tigres- Lost their best defender and keeper to FCD
-Solar Red- may or may not field a team
-TFC Royal- has some TFC Reagan kids and who knows what else, 3 spots still available A few "Castro" players here that did not leave when he did, and some from Reagan, but quite a mixture from other places as well, as Reagan's boys scattered pretty heavily.
-Texans- most of the boys from Texans Red? Yes Define "most." This is top half of Texans Red. Second half comprised of D1 and high-quality D2 players from two or three other teams. Also had about 3 boys go to Pre-A.

-TFC Reagan- did all his players go to D1 teams? What kind of team will he field?
-Ayses Gold- Did they get better or worse?
-Texans Red- 3 or 4 leftovers and who knows where the rest came from. Wrong again. Second half of Texans Red. In reality, no one left Texans from this team, just were divided between D1 and D2. Remainder came in from D2 and D3 teams.
-Liverpool Wilco- did he get poached? He's been stuck in D2 since U-11. Don't think poached is the right word here. Small amount of turnover but addition of strong, albeit "different," players in their stead.
-FT Worth FC-
-FCD Blue- is there anything left for Renfro to coach with all the D1 spots taking players? Whatever he does get, he will work his "gets the best from his players" magic and pull that rabbit out of his hat.
-Hurst- still posting for players

FWFC, actually 3 went to Solar Pre-Academy and 1 went to DT.

FCD Blue is almost a completely new team. Not based on a core coming in from anywhere either. Will probably be a long time before they can work together smoothly.

Tejanos held on to their best and probably upgraded. Look for them to survive the promotion into D1 this time. They may be one of the few D1 teams that will actually be better this year than last.

Does anyone know whether Solar gave back the Solar Red D1 bye? If Kicks get moved back up, D2 should be wide open, with maybe Babel and the Texans having an edge there. Oops, and Ayses Gold, probably in the mix too.

Does anyone know whether Solar gave back the Solar Red D1 bye

That is an interesting question! I have heard two scenarios if that is true

1. The ninth place team from the previous season retain D1 status

2. If your relegated, your relegated. The 3rd place team from D2 would be promoted to D1.

Happy feet or anyone else know the answer to this?

6. Unfilled Invitations in the League. If any invitations (“Bye Positions”) go unfilled, the following will apply:
a. In U12-U19, if any Bye Position into the Classic League goes unfilled, the remaining invitees will be promoted up to fill those places. Any resulting vacancies in the Classic League will be filled through the Challenge Games. For example, if one of the 10 Bye Positions into U12/Division I is not filled, the club whose team finished in 11th place from U11 the previous year (which otherwise would have received an invitation to field a team in Division II of U12 the following year), will now be invited to field a team in Division I U12 the following year. NOTE: the 29th or 30th place team (9th or 10th in Division II) in U11 the previous year will not be promoted into a U12 Division III Bye Position because teams finishing in the last 2 places of the bottom division are not considered “invitees” for a Bye Position. If such circumstances

Scenerio #1, if you use the 97 age group as precedence. Andro gave back DI bye and everyone moved up one spot. FWFC (9th) went back into DI.

Looks like Kicks DI & Liverpool (Woodberry) DII avoid relegation due to the vacating of the Solar Red bye.

I also noticed that FC Dallas WTX (formely West TX united) was given a spot since Ayses 98 Black is not longer a team.
