Thought it might be interesting to list the perceived top 15 teams in this age group one year before select and then see how that changes over a year. Based upon tournaments and results from SDL and other leagues it looks like:

I think Liverpool Gerrard belongs in this conversation. I would probably place them 8 or 9 in your list. Not sure how 11v11 will change everything. I think some teams will suffer because of it and others will thrive so it will certainly make the fall season fun.

Other changes... I would bump DT Scott down a couple spots. I think top 4 today are:

What about TFC 02B Larry and TFC 02B Haylock?

I think you could seriously consider TFC Larry towards the bottom of the top 15--unfortunately unless TFC Haylock has made some major overhaul to their roster from the past year, I think they would be considered quite a bit lower. I'd really like to see them drop down to D2 in SDL. I suspect they would be more competitive there. I think they have gone winless for the past year in SDL league play--maybe they won 1, but I'm amazed he still has a team--the parents must be really committed because most North TX parents would have walked away looking for a team that wins more.

Why Haylock still has a team is anybody's guess. He must be selling something over there. I think Larry does deserve to be in the top 15. We will see what the up and coming season brings.

My recent experience suggests that there will be a ton of movement in the spring, so it is hard to make a call beyond the top 3 or 4 teams.

I agree with Debit but would like to add FC Dallas Gonzales in the top 5. It will be interesting this season as now all teams will play 11 v 11. Will all teams have the strength and depth? There will be an adjustment period so strength of team will take time to recognize.

I do see a name on here not recognized. Who are TX Suns and where do they play? I look forward to the upcoming SDL season. Many player changes between teams so it should be interesting.

Didn’t FCD Goncalves beat Crushers White a couple of tournaments ago? you have to move them to the top 5, with that said I think TX Suns and Boca Juniors will make some noise and surprise some teams this coming season. Haven't seen DT Scott and others. Here's my ranking subject to change as the season goes on:

TFC 02 BOYS LARRY played most of these 02 boys teams and we have beat most of them.

TFC 02 boys larry played ayses gold in there own tournament and they spanked them 4-0.
They played Crushers a year ago in the primetime tournament and we beat them 2-1.
They played liverpool fagen and tied them 3-3 in SDL league play.
They beat Aces Pope.
They beat Mansfield mamba


It seems to me alot of these teams are getting rankings based on this summer tournaments. There are alot of teams not playing in summer tournaments due to this year being the last year parents can take a vacation before select/club level.

All of the top 5 teams have recognized TFC 02 boys larry as being a top 10 easily.

Since then they have played 2 tournaments. In both tournaments they reached the championship game with ease. Losing both championship games to Liverpool Fagen (top 3) and FC Dallas Gonvcalves (will challenge the top 3 this fall)

Also in my opinion Odyssea is ranked too high. A team who is untested in SDL 1. Yes they only lost to Renner 1-0 in King Tut but I watched that game. Any other day it would have been 6-0 to Solar, they had one of those USWNT days where it just would not go in. Odyssea just played kick ball the whole time.
I'm not saying they are not a good team I'm just saying it's a bit premature to rank them so highly before we have seen them play the top teams weekly in SDL.

Maybe they had a bad game against solar renner but they were winning 1 to 0 before solar equalized right before halftime. I watched the game also and they just didn't have a good second half and got scored on in the last 3 minutes of the game which was a controversial goal. Solar renner also had a bunch of crushers players to make a super solar team that tournament. We will see, but i think odyssey is a top ten team. They beat boca juniors in cal last year also. Just my opinion but i think tgre just about got it right Going to be a fun year

Good to get some 02 talk going. TFC Larry should probably be in there but the ranking was based partially on SDL results and it looks like they had a hard time in SDL last Spring. However, they are a good team and challenge each game.

Some additional thoughts:


I think there could be shake up in the top 5 this year. I know Crushers White got some really good players over the summer, ( I think from Ayses and Odyssey and a few other teams) and I expect them to challenge DTS for the top spot and things will even out a bit.

Dynamo has a good team of really big kids and will always challenge for the top 5.

Ayses Gold seems to have fallen off but saw them in the King Tut and although they did'nt finish high, it seems they have some really good players and should make a comeback.

Have not seen DT Scott play but based on SDL results, I think they have to be in top 4. It looks like they only lost one game in SDL 1 last Spring.

Odyssey was a D2 SDL team but they recently beat Ayses in the King Tut and finished second. They have a few really exciting players and will see what they can do this Fall in SDL 1.

FCD Goncalves could also sneek up and challenge DTS for the top spot as they have looked reallyt strong lately. ALthough they lost to DTS in the finals of a PRimetime tournament lately, the game was closer than the score let on, and Goncalves has some nice players.

Overall, I expect the top 10 to 15 to come together a little closer. Just my .2cents, probably worth less.

From the games I have seen in SDL D1 and tournaments, most of the top teams have a strong core of 4 or 5 strong players with the rest of the team being weaker (some considerably weaker). IMHO team success come next year will depend on a number of factors but the top two are how the coach develops the weaker players on the team and the second being recruiting.

I think recruiting will play a big role. The teams that keep their strong core and add some of the stronger players from other teams will rise (or stay) at the top. The teams that loose one or more members of their core will fall. It seems this favors the big named clubs and coaches as good players seem to flock there but time will tell.

Could not agree more. 11 v. 11 may show some of these top teams do not have the depth and may show others play better than previoulsy shown. As to the recruiting, I also agree, there seems to have been a lot of movement over the summer. I think the rich will get richer and the smaller clubs may have a hard time holding on to their best players.


As to Futbolista asking about TX Suns, They play in CAl and have done very well the last two seasons. They also played in an Arlintong Tournament (maybe Lightning cup ?) and got first or second. They are a strong physical team with some speed upfront. It looks like the goalie from DTS was playing for them in the Arlington tournament.

This should be a really good season for this age group. It’s difficult to rank the top 10 teams; number 1 is a clear cut 2-10 hard to say, teams are getting better.

I haven't seen much of the lower top teams play listed above but there has been movement over the summer. I know some of the top 5 teams have added strong players even DT South.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, oydessey has never beaten or even played TFC LARRY.

Its seems everyone is getting stronger over the summer. I know for a fact FC Dallas Premiere will be a completely different team from last year. THEY WILL BE VERY STRONG! It will be an all spanish team. FC DALLAS Goncalves will also be a very strong team this upcoming year as well.. They picked up one of the best 02 latin forwards in the age group. Everyone is constantly getting better. 11v11 will change everything though. Alot of these teams who were successful in 9v9 won't be as successful in 11v11. In 9v9, you can hide weaker players. In 11v11, you can't hide anyone. Everyone has to be able to play!!!!

TFC 02 boys LARRY RESULTS:
TFC vs 02 boys ayses gold.................TFC WON this summer

TFC vs 02 liverpool fagen.................Tie game 3-3
TFC in TFC JUNIOR BLUE Cup.........................TFC won the entire tournament.
TFC vs Liverpool Gerrard..............TFC will be scrimmaging the weekend before labor day
TFC vs Crushers white..............TFC beat them 2-1 in the primetime tourney last year


From my understanding, alot of these tournaments that have been played over the summer in the 02 age group.....have been against alot of rec teams. The semi-finals and finals were the only competitive teams.

TFC will be playing in the primetime fall classic in august 19-21. We are hoping to see some of these top teams in this tournament. I'm hoping its a very competitive tournament. And then of course everyone will be in the labor day tourney.

You might want to check your gotsoccer acount. Odyssey played TFC larry in the Plano LAbor Day invitiational on 9/4/2010 and beat themn 2-1.

they seem to have a decent team. they have one really strong player. parental bias says (as in "moral victory" loss to DTS) they can field a slightly stronger team when they incorporate some of their 03s, which SDL allows but all the NTSSA events/leagues have not.

Look I have seen Odyssey play and we have played them twice recently and if I compare them to other teams in the list that we have played I have to rank them in the top 10. Not sure if we have played any TFC teams lately for me to give my opinion.

Nice observations WRG but I have a question. I'm not nieve to believe that teams will get stronger but has FCD Goncalves just recently added someone after that Finals game we had against them in a recent tournament. The game wasn't a close game. It was 5 - 0 at half in that game.

Again nice observations. I'm just questioning it not knocking it.

Nice observations WRG but I have a question. I'm not nieve to believe that teams will get stronger but has FCD Goncalves just recently added someone after that Finals game we had against them in a recent tournament. The game wasn't a close game. It was 5 - 0 at half in that game.

I am not aware of anything that happened to FCD Goncalves since that loss to you guys in the final. Although TFC 02 mentioned they got one of the best forwards in the league. Don't know if he was there for that game. My guess is based on the way it seems they are on the rise.

Everyone is still chasing DTS but many are building up over the next year. ( Although I assume DTS may get stronger as well.)
