Obviously who they select next will say a lot about the direction and style they want the USMNT to take.

Wow! I guess the Federation did not like the way the USA dropped that Gold Cup game against Mexico. This is on top of Rongen getting fired from the U20s. Looks like they are cleaning out that group of former MLS coaches. Look for a foreigner to be brought in.

Re: Bob Bradley Fired
That's very good news !! Let see if we can get rid of his son in the midfield now.
I am very curious who will be next...USA citizen or foreigner ? Or even better...somebody from our board ?

A winning direction would be nice.

I like the poll on the EPSN page : as of now 72% of the 9200 answers consider he should be fired. I guess it was time for him to go (well to be let go)...

Re: Bob Bradley Fired
They should have fired Gulati at the same time. It will be interesting to see who will take over and what the new coach is allowed to change within US soccer. Remember a few years ago when they tried to hire Klinsmann and he wanted too much power and change the entire soccer system in the US?

Agreed, Gulati should have been gone as well. He needs to check his ego and hire Klinsmann. The U.S. is so large that they need a mad scientist with their unorthodox approaches and knows the US youth....thats Klinsmann!

Very true. The problem starts higher than Bradley. Gulati was brought in to get things back on track and make sure we balanced the books. That's done. Now lets get an innovative soccer guy in there. As for coach we could do a lot worse than Klinsmann. I would like to see him or even Guus Hiddink. (spelling?)Although I know that's unlikely.

Re: Bob Bradley Fired
Gulati is the root source of the current situation.
Bob wasn't a bad coach. The US just has much higher expectatations. It's no longer acceptable to just roll-over for any country. Especially the US' biggest rival, Mexico. To lose to Panama in the Gold Cup was a disgrace. The US has lost its edge.
Klinsi is the best choice. He won't be perfect either. But lets bring in a German perspective. I'm very curious about the direction he would take the American squad.
He'll start be cleaning house of many of Bradley's picks.
Note on Bob: during the Copa America '07, some friends and I were wandering around Barinas, Venezuela searching for he US hotel. It was easy to find; it was the only hotel surrounded by scores of military police and soldiers. Local police had the place surrounded, too. We stood across the street for a few minutes and prepared to leave. Then we see Bob crossing the street to us. He shook our hands and thanked us for supporting the US team. He gave us VIP tickets the US v Paraguay match later in the afternoon. It was time for Bob to leave the current coaching job. But as a man, he was a good guy.

Re: Bob Bradley Fired
The root cause of the current situation is that we have failed to teach our kids the game.
We focus too much on winning too soon. Soccer is a very complex sport that takes years of training to understand. We need more small sided games at the early ages, more skills development and better tactics.
Smash and run is epic fail...

It wasn't money. He wanted more control over the entire program than Gulati and USSF were willing to give him.

Re: Bob Bradley Fired
For some reason I am quite excited about the change. It seems to me that it is a step forward for Us soccer. I also like the fact that he turned it down twice. That means he thought about it already but didn't get his way; so I guess he has a plan...

Re: Bob Bradley Fired
While coaching the GNT and Bayer Munich he changed some of the old structures that were existing, introduced a more modern training program. When he was asked to coach the US before he wanted to change also the structures all the way down to youth soccer but the US didn't want to all that power to him.FGFF wrote:gababa wrote:So klinsmann it is ! Re: Bob Bradley Fired
Just read his page on wiki :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%BCrgen_Klinsmann
The guy sure is willing to kick some ant piles in order to get everything is own way. he also obviously has a global take on coaching, and doesn't only take care of his current team but also of the youth part of the clubs...
A pro form germany who won the world cup as a striker who also coached at the highest level and who has been living here for a long time and thus knows the US! This is going to be interesting !!!

Re: Bob Bradley Fired
Gabs, Klinsman won't be able to change the youth system in the US.
Hopefully, he will be able to take our USMNT and turn them into more intelligent soccer players. That, in turn, could influence our youth as they watch a better quality game.
I remain cautiously optimistic. Time will tell the tale.

Re: Bob Bradley Fired
Great... now all they need to do is replace the entire defensive corps except the keeper. Replace the two center mids and get a new striker or two.
Oh yeah, while they're at it, get rid of the crew that broadcasts the games. I don't mind "has beens". I just don't like "never was's".

I agree and my gut reaction on hearing that Sunil fired Bradley was that he had to sacrifice Bradley to save himself at this point. At least one other person thought that too, I found this article interesting.

I am excited that Klinsmann took the gig. I am curious however about how much control he ended up getting. I looked on Sunday; but couldn't find anything about which side gave in.
Curious how any control over youth development will change ODP and Academy. I've read that he is big on MLS clubs stepping up with $.

I'm fairly certain US Soccer gave in quite a bit by the fact that the other coaches from the younger national teams that were fired were never replaced. Kind of makes me think they knew that Klinnsman was the one that was going to be picking the replacements all along which at least gives a window into how much control he will have.

Re: Bob Bradley Fired
Another interview of Klinsmann:
http://www.socceramerica.com/article/43114/klinsmann-dad-gave-me-the-chance-to-call-it-my-g.html
it is short with good solid answers (I think) ending with the following (just for us the parents) :
SA: Who was the biggest influence on your career?
JUERGEN KLINSMANN: I was very lucky to have worked with a lot of great coaches, but my biggest influence was always my Dad, who just let me play and enjoy the game as a little boy and gave me the chance to call it "my game"!
