    Post  S0cc3rD@d on Mon Aug 01, 2011 12:53 pm

    Accepted teams list released:
    http://www.gotsport.com/asp/directors/tournament/vieweventteamsclean.asp?eventid=16418

Hurst or Toros favored? Ten teams. 3/3/4 or 5/5 format? We shall see.

I'm not 100% sure of some of these teams and their upcoming placement but it has been slow lately on the 2000 board and a slow work day....

FC Sharks and FC Dallas Black are both 01's. And teams not going to Classic qualifying. Won't be good for either team playing up a division and again classic league teams. Tournament just posted below. Wonder which team dropped?

Texas Summer Classic Tournament is looking for the following teams to complete brackets for the tournament scheduled for August 12-14:

    Boys
    U12 Boys - 1 team needed
    U13 Boys - 1 team needed

    Girls
    U9 Girls - 1 team needed
    U10 Girls - 1 team needed
    U11 Girls - 1 team needed
    U12 Girls - 1 team needed

Many of what are perceived as the "better" teams in this tourney have undergone changes, specifically at the top of their rosters. Top 5 teams should be well balanced, and semi finals/ finals should be competitive. Toros will cruise to semis based on pool opponents. Hurst, FWFC, Strikers, Andro, Midland will fight for other three playoff spots. Toros, Hurst, or Andro win it.

Congratulations to Hurst for winning the U12 division. They kept their heads up and avenged an earlier defeat to the Strikers in the finals.

Looking at the results, these look like the major story lines:

    • Hurst (D3) avenging earlier defeat to North Tx Strikers(D2) 1-0 in pool play and winning 2-0 in the finals.
    • Toros blowing through flight as expected
    • Hurst beating Ft Worth 5-0 and 5-1 in a D3 rivalry
    • Fort Worth getting Wild Card over Andromeda based on head to head even though Andromeda had a better point differential?
    • Ayces Gold (PPL) beating Solar Blue (D2) 1-0.
    • FC Sharks - 2000 or 2001?

Anyone who was there over the weekend and has any insights on these topics, please share.

Strikers are a good team. In pool play hurst out shot strikers 17-1, lost game on that one bad touch. It happens. Fwfc went through over andro based on head to head. Fwfc beat andro 1-0 in pool play, so they went through. Toros played cupcakes, then lost onPK's in semifinal to Strikers. My bb played d1 last season, we played , andro, and toros, fwfc, Clearly they all lost alot of talent, they are not the same teams. Hurst added and dropped a few, basically same team as last season. They had to work very hard to win final, and they did. Some pool games were one-sided.

Hurst united is a team with size on their boys. They controlled the possession of the ball and did not give the other teams breathing room to play with the ball.

FC Sharks seem to be a 01 team; their kids looked small in size. They play with heart similar to the Chivas team.

FORT WORTH FC if they can control the possession of ball more they can be a better team. They proved this against Andromeda. Hurts United gave them no breathing room which made them lose their focus and game plan.

SOLAR 00B BLUE is a well size team. Their Goalie looked real good against MIDLAND UNITED CHIVAS (TXN).

ANDROMEDA FC 00B GOLD played very good and could of beat Fort Worth FC but just couldn’t find the back of the net. If they can just step up their defense and not give the opponent breathing room, they should be fine.

I agree with this assessment. I did not see Andro play. I have to assume if Andro couldn't get through pool play, talent level has gone down.

I am very curious to see how the D-1 teams will look this year, because it appears to me that lower D-1 and D-2 teams were heavily pilfered for their top talent. I heard that FCD East picked up some good big forwards? Tigres picked up some newbies? Everyone knows about DT. The amount of movement has been giant. D-1 will be very exciting group to watch this year. Probably 8 of 10 in D-1 are very talented.

And, after watching some of what I thought could be contenders for promotion in D-2 in this tourney over the weekend, I would have to say that D-2 is just wide open. I am guessing Andro Gold and Toros will bounce back and do well. Maybe we will see them at PLD playing stronger. Those are still good teams. Labor Day most teams will strut out with their new ponies.

Pretty decent tournament by the way. Avoid the Hampton Inn on Stacy Rd. No laundromat, and the building smells like feet.....

Ayses, please pave your parking lot........

I thought this tournament was way awkward. Pool play has you playing teams not in your pool? Games against badly overmatched 01 teams? The Andro FWFC game had some of the most bizarre officiating I have seen in a while. It was a weird one last year, it was a weird one this year.
