    Jurgies 1st email

    Post  finish1 on Wed Aug 10, 2011 8:12 am

We received our first email from Jurgie this morning. He recognized the leadership before him and talked about developing and "American" style of soccer. We have that already and it doesn't work (bigger, stronger, faster).

His first assignment will be tonight at 8 pm on ESPN2 as the USMNT takes on Mexico in a friendly from Philly. Did notice that Zach Loyd was called up. Maybe Brek Shea will get a chance sooon. Freddy Adu is listed as a forward and Tim Howard defends the net.

My expectations for tonight are reasonable. After all, he's a coach, not a magician.

Brek is on the team tonight, just not in the starting lineup, correct?

Maybe not a magician but he sure makes it interesting again. Frankly without that change I was giving up on the team where as now I want to watch every game for a year...

I'm curious about his starting defenders; if he'll try anything new or go with the same regulars.

I'm also wondering who will start along Bradley in the middle.

I bet Bradley starts get subs second half. 2 games from now he is on the bench watching.

I think he wants to invent the American style of soccer. Lacking one today (hitting and running not really being a style)

Here is the US roster for tonight:

    http://www.ussoccer.com/Teams/US-Men/2011-Rosters/110804-MNT-vs-MEX.aspx

Brek Shea is listed. Maybe he'll get some play time.

Regarding inventing an American style, I believe Jurgie will recruit the same type of player we have now, but with a German influence on tactics. Size and speed will still be the primary focus.

We have to improve tactically for players of all sizes. Not convinced that is going to happen.

I love the way Barca combines quick touches with shape. They use small, medium and large players to defend, build attacks and finish the ball. With the vast volume of players in the US, we should be able to come up with a similar style.

Thanks for the reality check, Gabs. See you all in a few weeks. Looks like we'll play one another twice in a short span of time. Hope it's a bit cooler by then.

What does Gabs know? He hasn't seen the kids practice in ages, lol. They might be off the charts by now. Very Happy
