I agree 5 season left before they hit select and the drama starts. Question is do u start looking for a team that your BB will move into select with or do u wait till later and look around for a
Stronger team for ur BB.

Not looking to disagree, however are they not only two seasons away.

I am splitting up fall and spring season up into separate season. But yes 2 years away to select

If you do your homework by researching a club's method of operation, and a coaches track record for stability, you can minimize the drama by at least knowing what to expect. Chasing after that spot on a top ranked team can sometimes land you in a situation that looked a lot different from the outside. I think it is a good thing to find a coach that you believe in, and believes in your son, and support them all you can. It's always more rewarding to be a part of the progression of a team, than to join a team just because they are ranked highly in the age bracket. This is a marathon not a sprint. It's not about how wins at U-9, 10, 11. The important part is to find a system that can be there for your child's development through U-15,16,17. This is my third and last child to see through NTX soccer. It seems less stressful knowing a lot of the causes of the drama and being able to avoid them.

Thanks for the advice 50/50. This is my first go around and have learned a lot from this forum. I have leaned in the 3 years in academy that the coach will have his favorites and they will take importance over any other child. 23 on a roster but the focus is on the top 10

There were a lot of posts about the final game at the Plano LD Tournament between Odyssey and DSC. I think they were supposed to play last week in SDL but then nobody posted anything about it.

That's b/c the Ody parents are being polite. They took it to us last weekend. I guess their BB's were sick of our games ending in ties moreso than ours.

It was a better game than the score. Ody didn't get on the board until right before half and DSC was down one of their best players. Hope he feels better.

i am of the opinion that posting a score is not impolite...now if they put the post to the "We are the Champions" song then I would think that would be a bit over the top...us 03 parents do not do that...

Well I did but I took it down since i was the lone insane parent in the 03s.

Ody/DSC SDL got a little sideways late due to some DSC absences and some fatigue. On a normal day those two teams are roughly equivalent. Pretending otherwise via a single scoreline seems kind of...well....douchey?

No free lunches in SDL it appears either as Castro has been more than a match for us multiple times in the last year, including some where we were clearly iceskating uphill. May have to stay home for U4 rec soccer match anyhow. Cheers.

There is one thing I do know as I have many conversations with a lot of the parents on the top 03 teams, and that is development comes first and winning or losing games comes with the territory. A lot of these kids have friends and have played with some of these other teams, but at the end of the day the soccer has been great. This age group, like others, has some great talent, and I am sure many more will continue to grow as they are 8 years old. It is nice to be at a game in tournaments and have fun soccer conversations without the screaming and yelling, but more for the enjoyment of watching our bb's grow and learn the game while the coaches identify what their opportunities are now. BTW, Castro beat FCD 3-2 and it was a great game with action on both sides and superb defenders and goalies making it tough on any attackers

it sometimes depends on the weekend which teams are superior. I think most of us agree it is DSC, Solar Castro and Odyssey are probably the top 3 teams right now. I am not putting them in any type of order.

as for the rest, i will defer to greater minds since i have not seen all the teams play.

I totally agree with you. After that everyone is pretty equal no other team that i will consider on the top 3 level

Pretty sure if you talk to the teams FCD Premier (6-7 kids dropped from 02) and Solar Gold who played up in SDL last year, and FC Barcelona a scrappy, physical and fast team from South Dallas are right there and again it all comes down to who is playing with whom, but yes agreed the core players on DSC, Odyssey, and Castro have been the core for a while. I do know that individual play (dribble everywhere and score) is no longer a srategy because you can beat 1 or 2, but you alone cannot beat a team. This has changed the mindset and tactics of some and will eventually for others if the teams are to succeed. I do see more possession style soccer being played and Odyssey used to be the big kickers and have been successful at playing the ball on the ground with nice ball movement, switching the field, and diagonal balls. 03's are a great group and the best is yet to come.

BBs team plays a lot of games. Probably way too many games. I lose track, but likely 100+ games a year. 3v3, futsal, indoor, outdoor, tourneys, etc. And we are one of the few teams who has consistently played PTS and SDL. So, I think I have a pretty good handle on the spectrum of teams. That said, I don't really care too much about rankings or whatever, but may be slighting some quality teams by saying "these 3 than everyone else". Beyond the few teams that have been mentioned (including FCD), I will say that the previous incarnations of Solar Gold and Texans Gall were as good as anybody. Solar Red has a strong team when they have sufficient numbers. The Primetime competition has not been as strong as the SDL competition, but Deportivo Chivas and DTS are good teams. Well...I guess maybe we don't play enough, I don't know FC Barca at all. I'm sure there are others I've missed. Mansfield has been tough on us in the past. And there are really good players throughout all the teams, just these ones seem to have more numbers.

Joga, do agree with you on the evolution of play. Huge improvements across board in a year regardless of team. I think the big kickers thing is more an age deal, though maybe particular to Ody since they have one kid who can kill the ball so every foul vs them was a goal in the age of the miniscule goalie at U7/U8.

Its been a lot of fun so far. Not looking forward to the age when coaches are screaming "tackle through the ball" and I'm running out on the field when the kids are really hurt and not just crying because its been a long week at school and they fell down.

I agree with you. There are teams that are good but kids are still playing as individuals and not as a team. It will catch up on those teams that team work will beat individual players. 2 years to go before select and so much will change.
