    PPL placement tournament

Post  DadofDefense on Sun Aug 14, 2011 3:22 pm

Now that Classic has finished the Qualifying Tournament, how quickly will PPL be able to post schedules for their Placement Tournament?

Another tournament, oh that's what I need. I didn't know there was another one after the Classic tournament.

    When is that tournament?

It doesn't look like any of the teams are listed from this past weekend so I would think this will be updated. Right now there are 24 teams listed for 2001 Boys so I would think it would jump up over 30 when the teams from Round II join the list.

Only room for 10, is that right?

I just looked at last year's standings in PPL. The number of teams in the age groups divisions don't make a whole lot of sense to me.

    00s had 11 teams in D1 and 10 in D2
    99s had 10 teams in D1 and 18 in D2
    98s had 11 teams in D1, 10 in D2, and 10 in D3
    97s had 11 teams in D1 and 7 in D2

My son's team is a team that skipped qualifying and is going straight to Plano so I have been checking the site for detais etc over the past couple of weeks. Per PYSA if you register late you could be denied entry into the league or be placed in the lowest division. Have they held to this in the past? Will they hold to this policy this year. I know there is one team listed that was still playing last weekend...Ayses Gold. They were an accepted team for the placement tourney even though they were still in qualifying. They appear to be the only team to do so. However instead of PT (placement tourney I assume) next to their name now it says lowest (being placed in lowest division I assume). If PYSA holds true to late registration this could really screw up some teams that just got eliminated from qualifying bases on how Classic League does their qualifying tournament by only inviting top teams from top divisions from Plano and Arlington to challenge bottom D3 teams.

My son's team didn't qualify for Classic League this weekend. Our manager said that we got an automatic "bye" in Plano. I'm not sure which division the "bye" puts us in.

What does that mean, "automatic 'bye'"?

    I don't understand what a "bye" means.

BYE means we don't have to play in the placement tournament to get into an upper division.

At U11 you can either play in the Placement Tournament, or skip it. If you don't play in the PT you will be placed in the lowest division. The number of divisions will be determined by the number of teams that register for the league.

Jack, you are playing Plano D1. All of the teams that made it to week #2 of the Classic League Qualifying and didn't make Classic were given a BYE and placement in D1 if thats where they wanted to be. I guess a team could choose to play D2 if they so desired.

Don't forget though that quite a few of those teams will have chosen to play Arlington so I'm sure there will be teams that do well in the Placement Games that will be in D1.

    Jack:

You better have your manager check this as this has not been the case in the past. Everyone can get into Plano, however in the past everyone at the U11 age group has had to qualify for D1. I know this is the way it has been done for the 99s and the 00s. Your manager needs to apply by either Tuesday or Wednesday.

    Good Luck

This is not correct. Please read the rules.

•BYE’s will be issued in age groups U12-U19 to 50% of the teams in Division 1 with a maximum of 5 teams. This will only apply to the Division 1 teams that maintained N+1 and will be based on the combined standings from Fall to Spring of the previous year.

•U11's will be seeded based upon the best information available, i.e. tournaments since signing day, with a heavier emphasis placed on the qualifying tournaments for Classic and Lake Highlands.

Well then how come they wouldn't accept my $200 for the placement tournament today and instead took a check for $100 telling me it was for our BYE, while telling me that all of the teams that made it to week #2 of the classic league tournament were automatically given a BYE and placed into D1???? 2 different people told me this. One over the phone and a different lady in person at their office while I registered our team. Then on my application they wrote D1 very large with a marker. Why do you think that is??

And then another manager told me they were told the same thing?? And then Jacks manager was told the same thing?

We were told not to apply until after the tournament as they didn't want to hold a bunch of checks or give a bunch of refunds to all the teams that made Classic League which is understandable. No disrespect intended but maybe Ayses was pessimistic about their chances and applied anyways? Who knows. But that's also a good question. And in your defense, we read the same things you did. After having those two conversations today with them I just figured they made a change over the weekend and after playing in tournaments 3 of the last 4 weekends I was happy to hear we were getting a break!!!

    week long schedule?

    Post  Ace70 on Tue Aug 16, 2011 11:32 pm

Does anyone know why Plano went from a weekend qualifying tournament as they have in the years past to a week long schedule with many games being played mid week?

I emailed PSA regarding qualifying for Division 1 in the U14 boys group.

I received a reply that states that 19 teams will be in Division 1.

They are taking the top 3 teams from each of the 4 brackets and 2 wildcards (in addition to the 5 BYE teams).

This is quite different from the 11 in D1, 10 in D2 and D3 from last year.

U 13 will have 10 teams in DI. There will be 21 teams playing for 6 spots.

The winner of each of the 5 brackets and one wildcard will qualify for DI.
