PLEASE HELP - Middle School in Soccer Petition

    Post  Durty-Tackle on Sat Aug 20, 2011 1:26 pm

I am helping a friend spread the word...please read!

Coppell Independent School District refuses to add soccer to their middle school athletics program. Please sign the petition and let the CISD know that you support soccer...no matter what school district you are a part of.

This isn't just a Coppell effort, it's a North Texas soccer effort!

Every kid should have the opportunity to play, no matter what school they go to.

We all love the game and it's time all school districts take notice.

With all the cutbacks, I doubt this is a priority with the district.

Not all that much cutting back going on in the CISD as compared to other districts. Had a big tax hike instead. Still eeked out enough in the budget to put in a $600k mini Jerry-world scoreboard at the stadium this summer.

Maybe you can contact Gov. Ricky Perry and asked him about all his education cut backs. In our school district we have both 7th and 8th grade soccer in all 13 middle schools. Cut taxes and education is the first thing they cut.

There is always Rec ($90.00 per season) or Select ($2500.00 to $3000.00 yearly plus expenses). You must remember FOOTBALL not Futbol is KING in TEXAS.

I support your point, good lcuk with your fight.

Already fought that battle. Not going to happen in CISD, ever. The rec association had talked about getting involved, but that never materialized either. Also, can't have a boys team without including girls. Then, there are costs (coaches, buses, etc). Better have a solid business plan. Show me the money!

BTW- Double check your mission statement on the petition. I believe Keller put the kabash on MS Soccer this season. The AD will point that out in your meeting.

It's shame that the system is different for every school district in Texas. Coppell ISD is not a poor taxed district. But again there are districts in NTX that are smaller with less revenue and they do have Soccer,Little Elm is a good example.

Coppell is WEALTHY compared to DISD, yet Dallas middle school kids have soccer.

Compared to football, soccer is comparatively inexpensive. There's no need for additional practice fields or stadiums because they already have been built.

    Buses; already purchased.

Coaches, already exist, too. Or volunteer teachers or parents can be used. We were accustomed to the football or basketball coaches running our teams. It's not ideal, yet its ok because at least there's the chance to play.

Uniforms? Heck, when I was a middle schooler in the late 70s we wore the old football jersey's till we were issued plain Ts with numbers. I was number 88 just like Drew Pearson. We didn't care because we had a chance to play with our school friends in front of our other school friends. Teams don't need expensive Nike or Adidas kits. Simple & plain non-major brands kits will suffice.

Do you believe Coppell has an issue with "will", not "ability"? Its not the end of the world, but it would be nice for the Coppell kids to have middle school soccer. Best of luck with the petition.

PG, who is the reigning DISD MS soccer champ?

Regarding CISD, the arguement is that the cost of running the boys and girls soccer programs would not be offset by revenues generated. In terms of t-shirts, there was a sense of slight by some of the Keller parents last year because the starters wore nicer t's on campus. T-shirt envy, sort of speak.

Also, in terms of developing players, the mentality is that most competitive kids play club ball at the MS level, so by the time they start HS, they already possess the requisite skills and tactical training.

Plug in a quality coach and fill the stands with parents and siblings.

MS soccer ain't all that. Everybody gets to play, and only 6-8 games. I suppose it's fun for the daisypickers and their parents, but for real player... not so much.

Another negative comment by FB4. No wonder nobody wanted him as an admin. Ever think about saying something constructive?

Well, it's an argument of an extreme opinion. Neither provable nor disprovable, the offer is an agnostic viewpoint worth debating.

Certainly, there is some level of agreement with that statement by CISD administrators.

Durty, when is the petition due and what is the proposed date of implementation?
