    Lower Leg Pain (Shin Splints?)

Post  soccersister on Thu Aug 25, 2011 11:17 pm

Anyone have experience with BB and lower leg/shin pain? Could it be shin splints? How long does it really take to heal?

Not sure how old your BB is, mine had shin issues between the age of 10 and 11 and we had him looked at and it came down to him growing and not warming-up and cooling down enough. After he started stretching prior to and after practice the pain just about was gone. Most boys warm-up by kicking the ball on goal and that is just not the way to do it. Good Luck

Indeed, I just heard of a kid/teenager who got hurt doing exactly that. He pulled a muscle and is now out for a few weeks...

Don't recall what out Orthopedic doct called it.. most likely just bb bones are growing faster than muscles and tendons. Google youth leg pain bones grow faster etc... comes down to streching and cutting back on activities for a few weeks so you dont tear, rip, strain a muscle. Similar to Sever's Syndrone..pretty common in active growing boys.
