    Monterrey 8 - Andro Gold 0

It was only 2-0 at the half, and about 5 minutes in to the second half Andro had a near perfect shot on goal that was going right underneath the crossbar to make it 2-1 and give the Andro boys a little momentum. But the Monterrey keeper, who was all of about 5'5", made an increditble leap and got just enough of the ball to tip it over the bar. From that point on Monterrey controlled the game and it was basically target practice. Kudos to the Monterrey keeper, it was an amazing save and kept the game from getting close. After two weeks, Monterrey has served notice that they are the team to beat in D2.

That being said, the Monterrey team displayed some rather bush-league delaying tactics on an Andro free kick with just a few minutes left and Monterrey ahead by a 7-0 score. Three players from the Rays were disregarding the referee's multiple attempts to give the 10 yards, shuffling their feet like an old Tim Conway routine. While this display was disgusting in its own right, I lay the blame squarely on the referee. The reason these players (and others who pull these tactics) continue to do so is because the CR does not take control of the game. One or all of them should have been issued a yellow card when it became clear that they were wasting time. If the CRs would start to consistently issue yellows, the behavior would soon cease. No consequences, no change.

No offense, but a lot of teams slow the game down after a decent lead. I still get upset during the heat of the game, but afterwards I realize that the key is to get a lead and never look back. Two things to keep in mind:
    1. you can ask the referee for the ten yards if you choose
    2. the referee can add stoppage if a team is wasting time

Personally, when I am trailing 5-0, there is nothing I want to see more than the other team wasting time. Very Happy

I do agree that consistent would be a great thing.

I noticed when looking at the GotSoccer information that Amarillo Lightning '97B has a new coach? I saw their old coach working with them during the Summer Classic Tournament. Since he is the founder of the club and has such a successful history with boys and girls teams in the classic league this strikes me as odd. Does anyone know what the low-down is? With all the switching around of players and coaches over the past summer I would hate to see the league lose another really good coach!
