Soccer Training "on one foot hop" drill question

Post  txsoccerdad on Wed Aug 31, 2011 4:49 pm

Since my boys started soccer 6 years back I have never seen this drill performed on any academy or rec team and was hoping someone could verify this drill as one commonly used today.

On one foot hop forward about 30 yards straight line in the least amount of hops without dropping the other foot to the ground as quickly as possible then alternate to the other foot in the next round. scratch

Sounds like a player elimination drill to me.

Age range? It should aid in coordination of younger sets, might strengthen a weaker leg....and eliminate players?

My son is 10 and it seems the coach is looking for weak spots as he(coach) can't break him down by nastily yelling at him lol!

    It's how I see it.

The standard two 'weeding out' drills are
    1. Line up by height
    2. 30 yard sprints

That usually tells the coaches all they need to know prior to U14.

Sounds like a sobriety test, probably more useful if given to the parents.

Not trying to be critical because each parent knows their kid best and what he can handle, but what do you mean by nastily yelling at him? Does he curse at him, demean him, tell him he stinks? I am pretty naive with my own kids and if a coach did that at U10 I would be out of there. However, that may be the reality, I am not there yet.

Just curious how far a coach can go before parents say, "enough" with the insults of my kid.

So that coach is abusive, demeaning, and has strange training drills?

I know a lot of coaches that are that way, and a lot that are not. Some are successful, and some are not. Some are with "super" clubs, and some are indy.

It's funny that before tryouts they ask the questions, but go there anyway as though either it's OK, or they can handle it. THEN.... the "S" hits the fan, and all hell breaks loose.

All I can say is "Shutup and deal with it". It's too late now. You're under contract, and although "you check out anytime you like, you can never leave".

It is actually a great plyometric drill that will assist in developing both veritcal and horizontal jumping abilities. Sounds like a smart and progressive coach- suicide drills have their place but this drill will help as well.
