1st goalie took the player out on a break away in the 51st minute with lightning ahead 2-1. Second goalie did the same with less than 5 minutes to play.

Back-up back-up goalie did an amazing job and no cards for TFC today. Thank goodness. Maybe we're out of our slump

I'm not the best one to ask but soccerdad says that on both occasions, keeper came out for 50/50 ball and fouled the attacker. Can't even begin to say what happened to the boys the first 3 games...but hopefully we figured it out and are back for good

This looks to be a very strange season for D3. Every team except Amarillo has won and lost games that were not expected. Rankings will likely be very tight and each point meaningful.

I guess soccer dad isn't the one to ask either, because neither were 50/50 balls. On the first one, the attacker pushed the ball passed the goalie and the goalie completely took him out while never touching the ball. The second was even worse. Again the attacker cut the ball around the goalie and as he tried to jump over him, the goalie reached up and grabbed his leg. The ref made the correct call on both, no doubt.

3rd goalie? Most team's second goalie is 'chosen' by being last to practice or last in a race. How do you choose the third keeper?

Very strange indeed... but exciting. It is apparent, that the teams in D3 can beat each other on any given day. As the boys get older and physical maturity equals out, games will be decided by who makes the fewest mistakes, not by who has the biggest and fastest kids.

right?!?! who would ever dream you'd need 3 in one game. Back-up goalie played nothing but goalie in rec, moved to forward when we signed him last year and is one of our leading goal scorers. 3rd goalie was always our back-up before the other came along. Doesn't like it but sure did awesome today

Wow, what a weekend of Division III soccer. Here is my take on some of the weekends games:

1.) TFC-3 Strikers-0 I have to agree with soccermom that the 3rd backup goalie for your team played well. On the other hand I hate to break your bubble but your not back. You beat possibly the worst team in the division and really didn't play any better than you have the past few weekends. Your teams success is based on your two strikers. When you play a talented team with good defense (such as Lightning) who can physically match up with them, the result will be a loss for you.

2.) Hurst-1 Millenum-0 This game suprised me. I figured Millenum would have won although not a fan of their coach. Just goes to show any team can win on any given day.

3.) ALSC-4 TFC-1 Everyone knows I am a fan of ALSC. This was a beating up and down the field. Game was never close even when it was tied 1-1. Time of possesion was 70/30 for ALSC and TFC was outclassed whole game. I also noticed that ALSC was missing 3-4 of their starters on the offensive end of the ball. ALSC will be the team in Div III to beat if they can stay healthy. They proved several weekends ago at Summer Classic that not many Div I teams can match them when healthy. Fun team to watch like them or not. No "Kick ball", they play highly technical and skillful game. "Pretty" soccer.

I look forward to next weekends games. Game of the weekend should be ALSC vs Millenum.

Not sure I agree with comment regarding NTX Strikers being the worst team in the division. You might want to ask Barcelona and Hurst who both lost to the Strikers this fall. While I will agree that TFC Blue scrapped their way to a win yesterday, the 3-0 margin wasnt as wide as it might seem. Early goal put the Strikers in a hole but they did generate a few chances. If not for a great play by the center defender in the first half and a cross bar in the first half, its a different game. But that is the beauty of soccer. Sometimes you get the breaks and other times you dont. Granted TFC was at a disadvantage due to the they had two players sitting out with red cards.

I agree with you on this one and nearly wrote yesterday that the game was much tighter than the 3-0 score would make people think.

ASG 97B - how does the possibly worst team beat hurst 7-0 and win over Barcelona? W
If all teams were at 4 games strikers would likely be in 5th place. We stumbled against Millennium with a new defensive formation but loosing to TFC is no shame, we didn't have a great game and they played like the old TFC we all know.

D3 will be a tossup for second in my opinion. Amarillo being the odds on favorite for first.

Soccer Taxi: My opinion is based on what I have seen over several months. Barcelona over the last year has been inconsistent at best. They are a hard team to judge by. When they play as team and don't argue with coach, they are good. But more times then not they cut their own throat with lack of discipline.

Millenium is no favorite of mine. I don't believe the coach has any class and their team is one demionsional. They haven't improved in years. I was actually shocked you lost to them.

TFC isn't what they think they are. They have two really good strikers, average midfield, and weak defense. They were playing with back up 3rd string keeper who I believe played well. Coaching on this team is less than impressive.

My opinion is based on what I feel the teams you have played brought to the table. I thought you did have opportunites against TFC and suprised you couldn't get it done with both starting and back up keepers missing. Barcelona is unpreditcable in level of play and Millenium won't get better. I also felt watching your team depth was an issue. Big drop when going into bench. With all of these factors I formed my opinion. It is just an opinion, and I meant nothing bad. I wish you and your team all the best this season. You may prove me wrong?

That's impressive. I haven't seen one post slam so many teams at once. And then you look to be from ASG. Do a lot of recruiting for the team? First impression - a**hole parent(s?).

My first impression isn't that it's a parent at all actually...from reading previous posts - ASG '97B gives play by plays on lots of games on any given weekend...I don't know many parents who park themselves at the fields every Saturday and Sunday. Of course...they'll probably tell me I'm wrong again as they've done a couple of times on this thread Smile

Really? then the 'possibly worst team" comment was based the four teams we have played and not any assessment of the rest of the field? Real GP is 0-2, Alliance United is 0-3-1.

Of the 6 teams that have 4 games, they are separated by 4 points - pretty tight race so far. If Amarillo gets to 4 games with wins (likely), and FC Tlapehuala does the same (possible), then second place, and the promotion opportunity is one win away from 4 teams, including the strikers.

I don't think there is even a place for a debate on who is the worst given which teams have won over each other so far. I'll stick with my predictions that Amarillo is the team to beat and everyone else is in the fight.
