    SDL 02s

Post  burnthestar on Sun Sep 11, 2011 8:42 pm

    DT South came out swinging.
FCD Dallas looked strong, but fizzled out.
What wasn't needed in this game was that lady in the black shirt saying within hearing distance of other parents, that she wished one of the FCD kids would "take out" a certain DT South forward. Most of the parents, cool. This thing should've stayed away.

The discussions on this board about certain teams playing too rough, refs loosing control of games, etc. And now this.....I wonder why sometimes certain players 'take out' opponents. Parent issue? What a comment by that parent to make. Unexcusable and ridiculous! Take him out because he's a talented player and is schooling your kids? hmmmmmmm maybe we should have the parents intermingle on the sidelines and see if those stupid comments are made. Ridiculous parents drive me nuts.

No room for a parent like that on the sidelines, my son usually get's to mark up 41(DTS) when they meet up in games and expect nothing but the best out of both boys for good clean possession and competition.

I am a supporter of my son,his team and many players from other teams win or lose. Cool

Let's have a great SDL season peeps! cheers

Absolutey every parent that hears something like that has a responsibility to matter of factly say to that person the comments are wrong and unacceptable. Even more so if it is your own sideline. You don't have to argue or fight about but take a stand and do what is right!!! If enough people do it without excalating the situation the offender will be shamed into submission and usually retreat to the end of the field muttering to themself. Embarassed

LOL soccerdad! I'm sure it was an honest mistake.
@ my2cents, that is a great suggestion, but in my experience with people, this is what would've happened:
"I would've approached this woman and to her that this kind of talk is uncalled for. She would've gotten defensive, especially with her friends around. Her buddy to her right would vome to her defense. Then, her comes the shouting match. Distraction from the game. Parents from both teams looking at each other differently. A few good folks would try to step in to diffuse this mess. Game would be tainted."

Nobody wins. People like that NEVER learn nor go away.

For parents to act this way is shameless, is not always about winning wining winning. Parents act with more respect at the YMCA or the Rec leagues. If you want to give orders why not do it at practice. In game time what's done is done, what he has is what he will give in the field. Your shouting and screaming won't mean a thing when they get older anyways so just sit there clap and give props when your son/ team do something good. Being a donkey in the sideline is not motivating your kid at all! Humility will take your son a long way so start leading by example please.

Burn , my experience is it starts just as you say but there is no shouting match because I am not going there. If they shout at me I step back , put up my hands and calmly tell them that comments like that are clearly against the rules and if I hear another one I am getting a field marshall. If they say fine go ahead or yell or argue then I find a Field Marshall. The marshall usually will then baby sit them to make sure they behave. They can be taught that their behavior will not be tolerated or they will be made to go away. It can be done. I have done it many times as both a spectator getting the marshall and as the field marshall telling them behave or parking lot. Handled properly the kids win when they are shown there are consquences for poor behavior and there is a right way to handle it. We are upset and disappointed when officials do not uphold the standard of conduct of players on the field. We are hypocrits if we do not do the same on the sidelines in a mature, efficient manner.

There was one grandmother at an FCD Predator game, (Primetime tourn. in May) that was very vocal, loud and definitely out of control! Wonder if this was the same lady...It was kind of shocking!

Did she wear an FC Dallas (homemade) hat? If so it’s her.

You're getting too wrapped up in 9 and 10 yr olds 'playing at' soccer.

Team results in the grand scheme of things mean absolutely NOTHING!

Some of you are acting like it's the Champions league.

The only thing that matters is that they are enjoying themselves and learning.

    Here's a wakeup call...

You can bet that the "best players" at this age won't be the best at 17 and 18. Half of them won't even be playing soccer by then. (Largely due to idiot parents.)

we understand that the majority will not be playing.....we understand that these idiot parents will follow no matter what sport their child plays. Parents need to keep their mouths closed on the sidelines, keep comments to yourselves and let kids be kids and learn from the game and not the parents screaming like maniacs. Yelling at refs for not doing their jobs, yelling at kids for doing what YOU think is right..be a parent, do your job and shut your mouths! Oh and one more thing.....I know there are coaches that make the same idiotic comments as well.

I agree with you to some extent. I think the majority of the kids that play now will not be playing when they are 17 and 18. There are a lot of reasons for this. When the middle school and high school coaches get their hands on some of these kids, they will most definately switch to football and be on the field on Friday Night under the lights. I have seen a number of kids on teams in the 02 age group that would make great football players.

Additionally, I agree that some of these kids are wound too tight for only being 9 or 10. It probably comes from the parents but when I see kids this age get carded for arguing with refs over calls, there is a little too much pressure on that kid at this age. These kids will burn out.

However, I also think this forum is the place for parents to discuss teams, coaches, games, wins, losses as well. I think the majority on here know it is meaningless and beyond this forum do not discuss their kids 9 year old team very much. I doubt it makes good dinner party conversation. I don't think many on here think this is the Champions league and the rhetoric is just a product of being on an anonymous forum. In real life, I am sure there is more perspective.

Agree. My intentions here are founded on reality, experience and perspective. My hope is that most of these parents will learn enough about the game and the various stages of player development.

Given a choice (meaning without negative parental influence) the vast majority of these kids will choose soccer over most other sports. If, for no other reason than the creativity and autonomy that exists playing this sport. You just don't get that with any other team sport.

Soccer is essentially a "lifetime sport". How many adult football or baseball leagues exist?

Just because a kid "can" play gridiron doesn't necessarily mean they should.

Not trying to offend anyone here.

I would have to disagree that children would choose soccer over the big 3 (basketball, football, baseball). In middle school and high school, basketball and football get so much attention, it is natural that a child would want to choose one of these sports over a sport that basically only their parents care about.

Sorry cochese, I'm going to have to disagree with you as well.

I agree that throwball and basketball (to a much lesser extent) are "more popular" in middle and high school.

I meant that, excluding parental/peer pressure to play something else, the majority of kids would choose soccer. All things being equal.

I really don't get the parent analogy either.

I think the vast majority of soccer parents only support their kids because the kids choose to play. In other words, most soccer parents are not fans of the game....unless jr. is playing.

In my view most parents get their kids into soccer because they (mistakingly) feel that the sport is 'safe' and think its relatively easy to play. Which of course are the wrong reasons.

Because many kids and their parents find out that it is neither 'safe' nor 'easy'.

Manipulating the ball with your feet (and other body parts except the hands) just doesn't come naturally.

Kids that enjoy the game and are willing to work hard at it are the ones who develop into good and exceptional players.

The ones that don't tend to go and play other sports to either 'fit in' or because soccer was either too hard or they just don't have an aptitude for it.

Notice I used the word "tend". This is not a sweeping generalization on my part.

Very few kids quit because they don't like it. If that is the case, those kids tend to quit competitive sports altogether.
