    96 CL D1 So Far

    Post  soccerdad96b on Wed Sep 21, 2011 12:41 pm

Ok, we are 5 games into the CL season. From what I am seeing I don't see much change in the standings between now and the end of the season. Any other thoughts?

This age group has been really quiet on the forum this year. Let's get some banter going.

There might not be a big change for the rest of the year.....but there is dramatic change from last year.

other than the(MOSTLY INTACT) - TFC, Red South & Titans (White West)...Texans Red is the only team that has more than 2 from the previous year.....I'm sure things will tighten up once the new teams have more playing time together.....

I think the top 2 or 3 will pull away from the rest of the pack. Being almost one third thru the season you can see it in the stats. Most teams had at least 2 tournaments and numerous friendlies before the season started. If they are not starting to come together after 15 to 20 games then....
Add Ody to the mostly intact returning 13 and all starters.

Amazing how much talent was removed from Classic League 96 age group by Development Academy and Pre-Academy. The four super-teams are gone, gone, gone. Still some talent and some good teams but nothing resembling the top four from years past. Its a little strange looking at FC Dallas Premier or Andromeda Red still with elite rankings in Got Soccer but fielding teams that are not very competitive even in the diminished D1. Oh well, we knew it was coming I guess.

Texans still have a few good players from their previous team plus seem to have recruited very well - I would predict they will win the league comfortably in the end due to their depth. Ody and TFC should battle for 2nd with Ody probably taking it if their key players stay healthy. Maybe DTRS can make it interesting as they have shown flashes. Good luck everyone - nice to see some 96 talk!

new coaches....new players....new formations...some teams have only played 3 games prior to the season starting with their current rosters.....so these new teams are still fielding different line ups and trying to find that "fit"..I have seen good talent on these teams but unfortunatley ....it may take them all fall before they start playing to their potential..

Solar will be a tough team to beat if they can get some discipline on the defensive side of the ball as they haven't had a problem generating scoring opportunities (though as with the ODY game, they have had a problem finishing them in some cases). Only brought 6 back from last year, so would expect the team to continue to gel as the fall season goes on.

appears Solar is on the rise.....maybe these teams will not need all of Fall to get things together...should be interesting over the next few games....in D-2 is Amarillo HDP? .....if so they seem to be walking right through D-2 in route to D-1 next yr

A good result for Solar ( and ODY) no doubt. Lets see if they can take care of business against the bottom half in the next few weeks.

OK I'll jump in. Tfc win. Would not have picked them but not suprised but I am surprised to see them on top. Well done.
    Eagles win over DTRS.., wow!!!
    Tejanos tie ODY ??????
A little bit of mid-season shake up going on. Slumps? Injuries. I know ODY has three starters out long term (collar bone broken 2 places in solar game, leg broken in 3 places vs OK Texans, and bad high ankle sprain in practice) . Heard Eagles had a broken leg in OK PLW game too. Tejano player possible broken leg yesterday. Seems a lot of serious injuries due to the level of rough play being allowed. Thoughts? Is this normal as they get older and stronger? It sure is scary!!

As far as the Eagles go... No, there were no injuries in OK PL games. Not sure how that got started. Maybe because we had one player in a bootcast there but he injured that before we ever left.

    Update at Halfway Point

    Post  soccerdad96b on Mon Oct 17, 2011 10:32 am

We are at the halfway point and a few weeks since the original post...
No change in the Top 4. While there has been a slight shuffle, TFC, DTR and ODY are clearly the cream of the crop, but don't count out DTRS, who are doing very well. The 5-8 spots (FCD, Solar, DTWW and AE) should be the same teams at the end of the season but not necessarily in that order. They will survive. Tough year for Tejanos and Andro Red who are sitting at 9 and 10. Hopefully they will make it through the season before imploding.

Guess there is no cream of the crop!.....over the last 3-4 games the new teams seemed to have got it going....there will be no team running away with the DI crown.....look for things to continue to tighten up....I would say top 7 are very closely matched....any of these teams could pull off a win against each other....there is no stand out any longer....

CH1, I stick by my statement. So now there is 7 points separating #4 and #5 rather than 8 points...whoopee. Just because ODY got upset by FCD does not change a whole lot. There is still and will probably remain a good gap between 1-4, 5-8 and then 9-10.
There should be some good match ups within the Top 4 in the 2nd half. Saw where DTRS got revenge from their first game loss vs TFC by beating them 1-0 yesterday.

Suprising result from the Texans tournament this last weekend. Did anyone see any games? Any comments or thoughts?

OK I'll bite. I did not see any games but took a look at the results. FCD had a good weekend or brought in some academy guest players or DTS had a bad game. Nothing big here. What did you see in it?

FCD had only their regular roster....everyone out there seemed to have the same rosters...except Tejanos, and was more out to brawl than play....

Thats the problem with doing too many local tournaments. You see the same teams over and over and games become grudge matches. Throw in luck of the draw tournament refereeing and it many times gets ugly.

    FCD Curious?

    Post  soccerdad96b on Sun Nov 27, 2011 9:33 pm

Interesting CH1. I heard from several that said FCD had some pre Academy guests at the Fall Festival. I noticed FCD is only playing in the 2nd tier at Disney, rather than the top tier, despite their high GotSoccer ranking. Seems kind of strange to settle for that if this team is that competitive.

Sorry.....no guest players.....there are 2 DP U-15 Pre-Academy players that are rostered with the DI team, but they have been there all year long. There was no trophy hunting with guest players. Please remember the GOTSOCCER ratings were achieved by a roster that did not keep 1 player from the previous year. This is a completely new team.
