    USMNT Ready to Play?

    Post  finish1 on Fri Oct 07, 2011 9:16 am

Maybe we get to see some of Klinsmann's early influence on the USMNT over the next several days. They will play tomorrow at 5pm in Miami vs Honduras (Fox Soccer). The team then travels to NJ to play Ecuador next Tuesday 10/11 at 6 pm (ESPN2).

I noticed Donovan was missing in the LA v Red Bulls game earlier this week. Will he play this weekend?

He's out for these two friendlies but that just means that some other players will get a look.

Does anyone know the starting line up yet? Hope to see Brek Shea back in there.

This could be a potential lineup with Shea, Altidore and Dempsey up top.

There isn't any type of creator or someone that hold the midfield in that lineup. I think he will have to bring Dempsey back into the midfield. Or could see a brand new face in Williams (Hoffenheim).

Beckerman, Edu, and Bradley are all defensive minded midfielders vs Jurgen prefers a creator (with Donovan, Torres, and Holden out very limited on options).

I would put Dempsey inside behind Altidore, pull Bradley off and give a newcomer a shot on the wing in midfield. Dempsey plays wing midfield at Fulham but does not create any width and floats to the inside most of the time. A great goal scorer but not a typical wing player.

But I agree with 4LUTG, do not see a real creative player in that line-up. Not really sure there is one in the US Pool. Don't think Torres or Holden are creative, although they are good players.

Need to keep trying out new players.

    Here is my guess

    Howard - goal
Chandler, Boca, Gooch (playing great lately for sporting lisbon), Dolo (right)

    Edu - defensive mid
    Bradley and Williams attacking/holding mids

    Shea out wide left
    Altidore as point forward
Dempsey out wide right, but switching with Jozy or Shea as he floats around and gives the defense different looks.

Prediction - 1-1 (Hondurus scores first).

    Are you serious????

hmm I guess take it for granted, growing up in Europe use these terms or the numbers. So the forward that plays high in the line would generally be an 11 or 9. If you watch USA that is what Jozy Altidore has been doing where he is pushing up high in the pitch and then making runs back to the ball (back to the goal) then holding it as runs are made off of him and then he would lay it off or out wide. The defensive mid plays right in from of the back defensive line and usually referred to as the 6. Their job is more defensive of nature, get the ball and then look to link to the other central midfielders.

    That help?

Having also spent my formative years in Europe, I have never heard of the term point forward! Your use of defensive mid/holding is redundant but is a #6. I agree on your numbering format.

The USMNT got their first win of the Klinsmann era Saturday night thanks to NTX soccer. I thought Brek Shea played lights out for most of the first half and sent some beautiful crosses into the box from both flanks. On of them found Dempsey for a really nice left foot bender.

It wasn't a spectacular game to watch and we still have no shape around the ball. Lots of fast runs at the goal.

The best match this week will be Mexico vs Brazil tomorrow night.

Yes, but he had the right idea by attempting to strike downward on the ball. Just missed it. It's hard to shake off a mistake like that and he didn't play the same the rest of the match. Brek is very entertaining to watch because he is unpredictable. Hope he gets more play time tomorrow.

his first touch in the game was pretty awful for the most part. i am sure some of that had to do with the weather. I love to watch him play. his creativeness is showing more and more each game.

Plus, he is my son's favorite player.
