Completely agree with madisonmyers and R1, and I think those points were especially relevant considering the timing of this specific scrimmage. These teams were transitioning from 9v9 to 11v11 and it was the week before the Plano Labor Day tournament and then jumping into league play. I know the Gerrard coach was evaluating and developing formations, style of play, skill, positions, new players, etc. It's all part of the process of learning and growing. That was actually a scrimmage where LP Gerrard did lose 0-3, but I walked away quite pleased with the way the team played and more specifically my son. I thought it was a building block in their development and paid dividends throughout the fall. The coach and the players learned and grew from there. What more can we really ask from a scrimmage?

Great point and I agree. At the academy level, thats all its about is development. It looks like we are going away from the point here. I thought we were speaking about rankings.

It is really easy to get caught up in the drama this blog can create. I think sometimes we see a team ranked higher than ours (fact) or another post complementing this team or that (opinion) and take it as a personal insult against our team or more specifically our BB. At least I found myself doing that at first. Now, I try to see it for what it is, a fun place to discuss our favorite sport.

I think the main thing that was shown with the Fall season was the inconsistency of 9/10 year olds. That fact more than any others explains why no one could predict from week to week wins and losses. Obviously, some teams have more depth than others like DTS. I also enjoy playing the Solar Dynamo teams. They play aggressive but not dirty soccer. FC Dallas Goncalves passed the ball well and Oddessy had some skilled players. It was a good season for all 02 teams. Boys can learn in both wins and losses.

What it boils down to for is does our BB like his coach and teammates, is he being challenged by his coach and most importantly, does he LOVE the game. The answer to all 3 of those is yes for us so we are staying with our team, win or loose. My son knows his coach cares about him personally. This drives him into the backyard to practice and on the playground encouraging 15 other boys to play soccer everyday! Talk about a competitive game, in school ball from what I hear, the other side always cheats! lol!

    What happen to Cowpukesfan? scratch

This 02 Board is way more entertaining than my BB's 01 side.

I love reading about the teams as most of the 02's will be playing with the 01's in PA.

LP Rush won in a shoot out. It was a very good game. I wonder what the self proclaimed 1st place team will rank themselves now!!

For the record, WRG is the poster that's been ranking LP Gerrard so high based on their SDL fall season. To the best of my knowledge, WRG is not a LP Gerrard parent.

Not sure your characterization of LP Gerrard is correct. They did not proclaims themselves the first place and neither did I. The scores from SDL in the fall showed them to be undeafeted and they were the only team winning every game. Not sure what that means to you, but by virtue of the RESULTS from games, they were in 1st place in SDL for the Fall.

Take from that what you will, but they did not declare themselves first place. By the way, they also made it to the semifinals in this tournament and lost to Crusher 3-0. Not a bad showing.

Well as the other active Gerrard parent that posts on this blog I never claimed to be 1st place either. In fact, I never claimed any ranking.

As for the tournament, it was a good experience for our boys. Solar Crushers is a physical team and fast (and I mean physical in a good way). Great play.

Hats off the LP Fagen, it is always good to see another team in the club win. Liverpool has been having RASE on Friday nights which is skills sessions by invitation only. My BB has been able to meet some of the Fagen boys and enjoys the challenge of going head to head with them. It was a great idea by Liverpool and has improved my boys skills just in these past 6 weeks. Way to go Liverpool!

[quote]...the undefeated LP team is clearly a top 5 team...

The LP vs Crushers Primetime result is only one game....but I think it backs up the feeling that WRG got carried away and did not give enough weight to the fact that there was almost 2 leagues within a league in the SDL1 this season.

There are a vast array of teams playing 02 soccer and I have seen over the last few months that the various opposition can make our team look like Barcelona or Kickball FC.

I think LP Gerrard is a good team but not top 5. That said who really cares. Top 5, top 10, top 15...whatever....they are a decent team and in the mix come July.

You may be right but my thoughts fall largely in line with simple wins and losses. Although I will agree that at this age, with roster movement, strength of schedule and coaching decisions, wins and losses may not tell the whole story. But, I have seen LP Gerrard play this Fall and I would agree that they will be in the mix for D1 next summer.

The same reason I defended LP Gerrard is the same reason I have TFC as a top team even though they have struggled to get wins. I have seen TFC play and they move the ball well and are well schooled. The best test is watch the teams play.
