Did not play the game, we were told that the solar coach did not want to play 3 games in one day. It was odd because most of their boys showed up. Disappointing, oh well.

Didnt want to play, or didn't want to lose? Either way, totally lame decision by the coach. How disappointing for the kids. Can only imagine what the parents think about that .

Do you want to know what is really lame? To schedule 3 games in a day!!
I was born overseas, lived overseas +25 years, and I have never heard of any tournaments where kids snd no kids play 3 games in a single day, sorry it is just ridiculous!
In this specific case, Solar boys were up between 5:30 am and 5:45 am to be able to make it to the fields at 7:00 am for their 8:00 game. They played another game at 12:30 pm, and they have to play another one at 4 pm....uhmmm no I don't think so....

Oh by the way.....how many games did Mr. Leo Maric played yesterday?, Yup.. that's right ONE and of course in the afternoon NOT at 8:OO am.

Now one last statement.....My Boy plays for FC Dallas not Solar, but I totally agree with Solars coach. Reschedule the final, be fair!

I don't disagree that this would have been a bit lopsided, and I don't disagree that 3 games in one day is a lot, but I am surprised at people's surprise every time this is mentioned. It is exceedingly common to play two of your three preliminary games on Saturday and the third on Sunday. If your team is fortunate enough to continue to advance, you will continue to play BOTH semis and finals on Sunday; hence, you will have to play THREE games.

Having said that, tournament officials do try hard to be sure teams within the same brackets play the same type schedule in the interest of fairness; however, that is not always possible with the larger tournaments, multiple brackets and multiple flights.

Hope it all works out for both teams in a fair and equitable way.

I agree that the scheduling on this tournamnet was very poor. I know if one coach that had 3 teams in the tournament and all his teams were scheduled to play at the same time and at two different complexes; however it is not uncommen to play 3 games in one day especially mini games. Also Solar had only one game on Saturday while the Texans had two, the last one at 8:30pm. Why did the Solar coach not ask right after the semis to have the finals re-scheduled? The schedule was known for a while and the one finalist was pretty much set in stone IMO. Take it as it is because life is not fair and the kids really don't care they just want to play.

As my bb said in the car, who cares we play each other like 3-4 times a year already. I get that coach has to look out for his team, I also know if you play tournaments in NTexas playing three games in a day is not uncommon. At 25min halves throughout by the time you get to the finals you have almost eliminated an entire game. I also know that the Solar 98 boys had no issues with it appears. They played 3 on Sunday and walked through the competition.

Again who cares at this point.

Maybe you should go back overseas then.

It's a tournament, the scheduling sucked yes, but it was not biased towards the Texans. Look at some of the other brackets, our 99 Texans included. They couldn't even get the Texan coaching conflicts worked out and our team played 3 in one day as well. But that is no excuse, the kids want to play and win or lose it's just a tournament. More touches and experience for the kids. Solar is lame for forfeiting, plain old lame. Texans did a horrible job at scheduling, makes no difference.

another way to put this is that Solar 00 doesn't care about winning or loosing but about the players safety and rest.

Weren't the schedules posted ahead of time? That is, they knew the full schedule before they played the first game.
Not unusual to play 3 games in one day in North Texas Tournaments, specially during summer 100+ degree weather.
I am not sure I agree with the decision not to play. If the schedule was changed in the middle of the tournament, i see the point, otherwise, no sir, you play the game and hope for the best.

So if the other team had also played 2 games already, would Solar have still forfeited for the sake of safety and rest?

Yes, the coach would have still requested the reschedule (not forfeit) of the finals match regardless of how much the other team had played prior to the match.

The Solar coach asked for the schedule change immediately after the semis. Any DIVISION 1 coach that looks after the safety and health of their boys over winning is quite impressive in my book.

The schedules were up a week ago. The Solar coach could have looked at the schedule at that time and made an objection and requested a change if he thought it was "unfair" to or "unsafe" for his players. If he made the request and the tournament scheduler didn't accommodate him he should have withdrawn his team from the tournament immediately if that truly was his concern; if he didn't make the request then he should have played the game. He knew the schedule long before he won his semi-final game yesterday. And he, along with everyone else that plays in soccer tournaments in NTX and all over the country, knows that you have to play multiple games in one day, sometimes 3 games in a day if you make it to the championship game.

The U12 White 2 division finalists played at 8:00, 11:00 and 2:00 yesterday. No forfeits.

The U12 White 1 division finalists played at 8:00, 12:30 and 4:00 yesterday. No forfeits.

Solar 98B played three games yesterday, 9:30, 2:00 and 6:00. No forfeits. So the "we don't play 3 games in 1 day because it is unsafe for our players" rule is clearly not a club policy.

If I were running NTX they would be sanctioned for the forfeit in the same way teams that withdraw after the schedule is posted are sanctioned. We all know the rules going in to these things. Accept them and play the games or do not sign up in the first place. Not fair to get to the end of the weekend and then pull out claiming some excuse at the last minute. I don't think it is fair to either team--certainly not fair to the Texans boys. (my kid has no affiliation with either club)

And I don't agree with you guys that the schedules were poorly done for this weekend. I thought they did a good job based on the size of the tournament. With 221 teams, there is no way to make everyone happy--just ain't gonna happen. Someone is going to get inconvenienced, some coaches are going to get double-booked, someone is going to have to play at 3-4 different complexes and SOMEONE is going to have to play 3 games in one day. These are simple facts of life. Accept them or don't sign up to play.

That is the wrong time to be asking. Should have asked LONG before that. Solar coach and/or manager dropped the ball on this.
