Prime Time Tourny
A shout out to the DSC team for winning this tourny. They beat Odyssey in the semis and after losing to Castro in bracket play got their revenge in the final. Fun weekend my bb had a blast playing with them, team and coaches are fenomenal.

Yeah, congrats, good weekend for DSC. We had fun balanced matchups with them and FCD.
And now into the backyard to practice PKs.

Any of the four that made it through could have won, so congrats to all. I was particularly happy that we only had minor booboos, clean play overall. Don't know where the boys got the energy to play three tough games on Sunday, I was pooped at the end of the day, and I just sat and watched!

Let's just say the parents of both teams (Odyssey and Dynamo) know what truly happened. First time I have seen a team score two goals and lose to a team that scored 1.

Sorry, was there the whole time and I only saw 1-1. I might have blinked, so I asked my bb about this one, and he assured me it was 1-1, no sneaky goal was missed by the ref and the rest of us.

Re: Prime Time Tourny
You must have been in the bathroom. There was clearly a goal scored that the refs missed. 6 or so kids confirmed this, a couple DSC players had reactions that clearly showed they thought a goal had been scored, a few of the parents on DSC shouted words of encouragement to the goalie who thought it was a goal, and a few other adults who I have no clue who they were rooting for confirmed it, but if you need to clearly deny what happened to make yourself feel better so be it.
In the end it isn't the end of the world. The facts (look up the meaning of facts if you need to) are that two balls went beyond the goal line for one team and it wasn't DSC. That is OK and the world will still be fine. The reffing in that game was atrocious and clearly those refs had no business officiating that game. Calls get missed every game, but you can't miss goals when 10+ people saw the ball go in. Were the refs pulling for one team over the other? No!!! That is silly. They were simply incompetent. Had I been the referee I would probably been equally as incompetent (since I don't ref and I have no business reffing any soccer game).
Kind of a pain explaining to 8 year olds why they lose a game when they had two goals and the other had one. Also a pain is explaining to kids that the Ref absolutely did not cheat. She was just bad.
ETA: Axxman who said I was worried about it? Not worried at all. No need to get all defensive. SImply put one team had two goals and one team had one. Oh well. Life goes on. My apologies for making your blood pressure rise. You clearly need that trophy far more than I do. I simply was pointing out the facts.

Re: Prime Time Tourny
Dear Ann,
I have a problem. Almost a week has gone by since a bunch of 8 year old kids played a soccer game. I saw a goal go in for my kids team that the refs did not see, nor most anyone else for that matter. When I discuss with other parents on our team they seem to remember a goal too and nod their heads in agreement. I know I am right. Our team never loses, therefore I must be right. I have posted on a blog as I am so convinced, but truth is, I'm not really worried about it. Will I ever be able to get over this? Please help.
Sincerely,
Concerned Odyssey 03 Parent

P.S. Odyssey actually lost a few weeks ago to a team that was flat out better that day. Keep reaching though.

1 team had 1 goal, and 1 team had 1 goal. No matter how you spin it, dont be a sore loser like you are being. I remember in Plano Labor Day there were some bad calls that should have given DSC a few opportunities to win in regulation. No DSC parent came on here stating anything about "The facts" and if you are wanting to know what to tell your kids, teach them to lose with dignity. There will be 100's of games that will be played and I'm sure you will have bad calls in most of them. Life is like a box of chocolates...
Proud of the way DSC and Odyssey played and leave it at that. Odyssey is a great team and will when many tournaments, stop taking away what a few 8 yr old boys did and let them enjoy it..

Actually what I teach my kids is that you have to look at any situation and see it for what it is. There have been games that we have had to play in where the other team was down a player (due to not enough kids). After a win I explain to them that it wasn't a fair game since the other team had less players. Our children absolutely lose with dignity, but they question why they lose when their team kicked the ball past the goalie twice and the other team did once. We also have to explain that some people are less competent than others and that the ref was bad, not cheating. As for the sore loser we aren't sore we lost. Simply pointing out that one team had two goals (regardless of what was recorded). We have lost before, we will lose again. There are bad calls in almost every game. You simply can't miss goals. If you aren't competent enough to see a clear goal scored then move on to a different job. Screw what the parents think, but you owe it to the kids to get the calls right. From what I understand the child who scored (the one that wasn''t counted) was pretty upset that his goal did not count. There are a few posts on this board that discuss refereeing that I have not been a part of.
Instead if you would like we can act like the world is full of rainbows and butterflies and say that things that happened didn't. If that is what makes you feel better then teach your kids that. I hope my children understand the realities of the world. If you need to feel better by denying what happened then so be it. All I know is I will tell the child who scored the goal that wasn't counted that "He had a great goal and to go do it again." I surely won't tell him "Oh you didn't score. Didn't you see that the score was 1-1 so while you kicked the ball past the goalie it doesn't count so sorry, but you didn't score."

Ann,
For someone who's not too worried about it, your panties sure seem to be in a wad. You are right, the world is not full of rainbows, butterflies, and daisies, I say we call Primetime and have them do something about this. Maybe you can write a few more posts and tell us all the the score was really 2-1. Get real would ya.
Lost in Texas.

Indeed. Proud of both and told many of the DSC kids that. Also told many of the DSC kids "Great win, awesome job on the penalty kicks, and if you guys play like that all the time you will pile up the wins." Went out of my way to tell their goalie great job as well.
Never said both teams didn't play well. Merely pointed out the fact (there is that little word again) that two balls went past the goalie line. Unfortunately it seems as if Axxman got off his meds and can't handle that.

sorry it is not a fact or the score line would show it. further, if that phantom goal had gone in, you have no way of knowing how DSC would have responded to it. U need a grip on reality and stop WHINING about a missed goal or call. if this is the first time a goal that was or was not called or was called when it was not a goal, you might as well get used to it.
My BB's team had a goal called against them when it clearly did not go in during last November's tourney. No one complained about it longer than 15 minutes after the game with other parents on the team. It is called, THE WAY OF THE WORLD.
You should learn the same dignity and stop trying to destroy the win for DSC. I swear u Odyssey parents have an altered sense of reality. U guys are psychotic. you should really discuss this with your therapists.

The fact is just because it went over the line does not make it a goal unless the ref signals it. Just like a ball that hits a hand or goes out of bounds or an apparent foul. It is a hand ball, out of bounds or a foul in your opinion only until the ref calls it so. So the fact seems to be that you just do not know if why the ref did not consider it a goal.

Wow. My bb was so mad that I had to resort to this! At least with Prime Time, we had video footage and you guys can view and review this "bad call" as often as you like. Someone owes the ref an apology. My call? Way to go, goalie! Great save!

It's much clearer on the full size video, ball never crossed the line. Great no call by the refs. Sure they weren't the best all weekend but that one they got right.

Re: Prime Time Tourny
I won't pretend my view was any better than the video view because it wasn't. I have to go by what multiple parents and/or kids said which was that the goalie slid and his foot was in the goal, as was the ball, when he made the save. Great save no doubt, but that video can't possibly tell you where the ball was when it was saved. By no means am I saying that that video clearly shows a goal was scored because it doesn't show that either. I'll be the first to admit I had no clue what happened. I had to be told by multiple people what happened.
From what I heard they asked the kid who kicked the ball past the line why he didn't keep playing and kick it again? His answer was "Why would I kick it in the goal again when it was already in the goal?" If you think an 8 year old can manipulate and conjure up such a quick response then so be it.
To the other posters,
Also where am I whining? Did I say that they should take trophies back, or record it differently? No. I simply stated what happened. We all have moved on. I thought this was a public forum where I could post my thoughts about something. I simply did that. If you feel that it was different then by all means you have that right.
It also didn't rain today yet. Just because I said that doesn't mean I am whining about it not raining. You people need to chill out. I haven't been upset with any post, but it is obvious that many of you are freaking out. My apologies for posting what happened and/or what I was told happened.
www dot sportsdefinitions dot com/soccer/Goal dot html

Let me end it by saying DSC played an absolutely great game. I really hope that none of my words said anything differently. Sorry if my posts came across that way. I really was not trying to start a fight. I was just conveying what was told to me.
Congrats also for DSC winning their next game (against Castro I think?) and from what I am told in the pouring (freezing) rain.

I think my2cents covered it. If the ref doesn't call it a goal, its not a goal.
We all see things differently. Self-congratulation, complaining after the fact, and gross generalizations about folks that you don't know based on very limited data all make me sigh. But hey, go with what pleases you.
Its all good. Personally my son's happiest moment on Sunday was seeing his friends on DSC win the final.
DSC: congrats
Odyssey: get better for next time. not much beyond that.
Odiewhomever: lets chat about Parmenides or Kant's Critique of Pure Reason to illuminate me about a better version of reality.
Happy Thanksgiving.

I had to be told by multiple people what happened.

so what you are saying was not based on the "facts" but based on rumor and hearsay.
thanks for proving our point.

I'll dumb it down as much as I can. The fact is if a ball passes a goal line it is a goal. Whether it is recorded as a goal or whether a ref sees or does not see it does not change that the definition of a goal occurred.
When multiple sources (closest to the action - both kids and parents standing down towards that goal line area watching) say it passed the line I take it for what I am told.
I was told it was sunny by multiple people yesterday in San Diego. I didn't see it yet when I hear it from multiple sources and it is pretty plausible I take it for what I am told (in this instance).
Second you might want to think before you post so you don't contradict yourself.
First you say this

sorry it is not a fact or the score line would show it.
Then you say this

My BB's team had a goal called against them when it clearly did not go in during last November's tourney.
So which is it? The facts according to you in your second paragraph is that it clearly did not go in. But a few sentences before you said that can't be factual or the score line would show it.
Finally, I really am not upset about this. I think it is funny people are getting in a huff about this. I merely wanted to point out what happened. You (and other), clearly as far away from the action as we were have differences of opinion. Because of that I have to rely on people closest to the action. That is all I did. Maybe the 10+ people were all wrong. If so then I apologize. I personally do not think they were based on the consistency of what was said. We can agree to disagree.
In the end DSC is the champion. Period!!! I just wish there was a more competent ref (both on the sidelines and in the field). Kids getting tackled on the field (both sides) with no calls and then minor jostling getting whistled (both sides). 90% of the time the refs do a great job which means they are consistent, not that they get every single call perfect, but that they get the calls that are game changing correct.
In the other 4 or so losses that we have seen the refs have been outstanding and consistent.
