I was talking amonst some friends on how the "best player in the world" is decided? I think it should be a player who can do it all and not just be limited to strikers for example messi is a great player and scores alot but like a friend told me if you were to take messi and put him on ANY other team he would not be the same? now C Ronaldo is the kind of striker/winger who adds danger to any team he plays for but struggles at times cause' without the ball he has no impact on the game? Ronaldhino is the type of player who impacted with not only scoring but with his playing making abilities, that being said who would you the famed NTX panel of experts consider in your opinion to be the best? dont bandwagon just give YOUR opinion it could be just because of the player, team favorite, most popular, striker, defender or etc... ok now people discuss....

Thats a hard question to answer because its bias. First and foremost, goal scorers get the biggest paychecks because you can only win by scoring. C Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar, ronaldinho, Van persie, Didier Drogba, wayne rooney, Carlos Tevez, Ballotelli, Ibrahimovic, Eto, etc are publicly the best players in the world. All of these players above are natural finishers!!!
Now the ones that I consider to be the best all around soccer players would be Xavi, Iniesta, David Silva, Robinho, ROnaldinho, Wesley Sneijder, Nani, Nasri, etc. I consider these players playmakers. They make every one else around them better.

Re: best in the world?
One of the best......Marcelo Vieira. Great defender with skills to attack and a natural finisher!!! He can play midfield and maybe even striker.SoccerGenius99 wrote:omega striker wrote:I was talking amonst some friends on how the "best player in the world" is decided? Re: best in the world?
I am a big fan of Nani. Smart, creative, and very unselfish. Also like Theo Walcott. Highly intuitive and great chemistry with Van Persie. In terms of US players, I like Brek Shea. He has a knack for being at the right place at the right time. Just needs to play with better talent to bring out his best.

Re: best in the world?
How about best player in general playing positions.
GK - Valdez, Hart
Fullback - Lahm, Evra, Cole
Centerback - Vidic, Silva, Pique
Midfield - Xavi, Silva, Bale (when fit!)
Forward - Ronaldo, Messi, Rooney
If I had to pick one to make the biggest impact as an addition to any team I think it would be Ronaldo.
RE Messi: he does depend on the Barca system as seen when he plays for Argentina.

Re: best in the world?
Maybe the players surrounding Messi in Argentina aren't as talented as those at Barcelona. Team chemistry can be a greater sum than its' individual components.

exactly the point good sir messi is great because of the TEAM not because he is THAT great by himself the other players mentioned would be GREAT with ANY team?finish1 wrote:Maybe the players surrounding Messi in Argentina aren't as talented as those at Barcelona. Re: best in the world?
Messi is that great by himself. The current Barcelona team was designed to take advantage of his size, speed and natural gift at possessing and finishing the ball. In a world fascinated on attacking with size and speed, Barcelona defies the trend with shape, discipline and skill. Messi is #1 in the world because he is simply amazing on the pitch!
On the flip side of the coin, replace Messi with any of the above mentioned players and Barcelona wouldn't be as successful as they are today.

I disagree but thats all I was asking in the first place was personal opinions!finish1 wrote:Messi is that great by himself. "unselfish", that one made me giggle. Nani's definitely class above other wingers in the PL, but there is a big reason why he spent many of the biggests games in Champions League and Premier Leagu campaign last season on the bench with Ferguson preferring to go with Valencia (when he returned from injury) and Park on the wings. He took a lot of shots on goal with very few on target and many of them from very poor angles. Rooney's disgusted look at Nani was hilarious b/c it was so frequent.
This year is a different story. From stats perspective, Nani had a better season last year than this year, but Nani's contribution both sides of the ball and more quality crosses and passing across the face of the goal have started to show his maturity as a player. He's even cut back on the cart-wheel and double thumb point to his name after a goal. That said, half a season isn't enough to change my opinion that he's a selfish player (yet).
As for my pick on best in the world? Messi, nobody is more pleasing to watch than Messi in Barca system.

I’m just put’n it on a low simmer, very low heat…
Ok..
The Old School: 1) Johan Cruyff
Should be in everybody’s top 3 of all time, prolific scorer, “poetry in motion”
Not soooo Old: 2) Zinedine Zidane 3) Pavel Nedved
Now: 4) Xavi, 5) Schweinsteiger
OK.OK.. OK...
They all played midfield, which to me was/is, and always will be “Da Glue of the Team”.
But the most important reason (to me) these are my top 5 is for their help/play in defensive end… What I call a "Full Package” player
Now, I didn’t name a single player from South America -> I truly believe “They grow them on trees” down there…
