With everything that the Classic league volunteers do to ensure that there is a league with fields, referees, and teams, it is more than fair for them to expect that parents support the program through appropriate behavior.
I have lost my temper with referees and even allowed a parent to get under my skin. There is no excuse. However, if there is an expectation for parents to sit quietly on the sidelines, win or lose, it would be nice if some issues were addressed.
1. What is cautionable in this league? After watching many games for two years, I have no idea. Not only are there huge differences between referees' interpretations but even in a single game there are times when the inconsistency is hard to bear.
2. It is time for the parents on each team to sit across from the benches of their respective teams. I have noticed the past two weeks of parents from one team starting their line of chairs at midfield and literally taking up 60-70 yards of the field. It's frustrating to be forced to watch a game from the penalty box and have to listen to comments of the other parents at the same time.
3. Parents and players in Texas need to stop getting worked up just because their team is playing a team that has players of a different ethnicity. Soccer is a game played around the world. Some games have way too much tension that doesn't need to exist. Even some referees need to relax a little.
4. At U-11 to U16, the League should strive to make sure that the teams are comprised of players of the appropriate age. Hopefully, this is not a tactic that is used to help our top tier teams compete nationally.
Basically, after spending a few grand per child, parents have a yearning that their child will be coached by someone who knows what they are doing and will treat their child with dignity, while also being allowed to play a game where the rules are applied evenly.
Needless to say, there is plenty of frustration shared by all parties.
