    Kevin "Smudger" Smith

    Post  irish86 on Sat Jan 02, 2010 8:01 pm

Kudos to Solar's Kevin Smith. After another successful stint at Disney, Kevin was named coach of the U17 Boys Disney Showcase All Star Team. Kevin will take the team to Chelsea for a week of training in August, courtesy of Adidas. And for the third consecutive year, a former Smudger player was on the NCAA championship team. Well done Kevin and good luck in Cali in 2 weeks!

I guess I was surprised somewhat. I knew he was a "douchebag" but he is actually a bigger "douchebag"

Every team, coach, and club has its fair share of rumors. But from what I hear this one takes the cake as a real doozy. Maybe that's why he's lost so many players? Probably very shocking to most but unlike old soccer dad who might be surprised by this, I must say nothing surprises me coming from the world of youth soccer anymore.

Yeah, most of the select coaches aren't qualified to work at 7-eleven. I wonder if this will effect the sale of my "Signed Kevin Smith Sidekick Jersey" on Ebay. I was planning on donating the proeceeds to Solar to pay for the new fields.

Okay this is like one of those inside jokes . Other than he is apparently a douchbag, what's the rumor?

I heard last weekend that the two big Solar guys stepped down and one is already gone. Never a good sign for a club. Does this have anything to do with this so-called "rumor"? Is he leaving Solar too? Is Solar bankrupt? Maybe a secret affair with HN? Fess up.

Are you kidding me. Bankrupt? With as much as these clubs charge that would have to mean some really bad money management. An affair with HN is more believable than that.

Whatever is going on at Solar is not positive and will probably effect alot of good kids. Douchebags like KS always talk about they coach for the kids, but they are really just in for themselves.

    Whatever that means.

KS's sideline antics are whack-a-do, but out of the lot of 94 D1 coaches I'd have my kid play with him over the others. KS has his issues but when it comes to getting his 94 group to play good soccer he's ahead of the d-bags IMO.

In the U16 age group between the USSSF Academy teams, Classic D1 and D2 I counted 8 or 9 coaches that are better at coaching soccer than KS. However, there are only 1-2 that are at his level in recruiting players. IMO

Don't know about his 94 team but he has been outclassed as a coach by Bobby Rhine with the 96 team. Not even close, but it is fun to watch him go ballistic as he loses.
