I see the "victim of the assault" deliver a nice hip check (foul #1) and then at least two nicely placed elbows to the ribs (fouls 2and #3) with no whistle. IF this what was being delivered to the big guy all game I am sure he told the "victim" if you elbow me in the ribs again then...., No one can say for certain what should happen with out being there and this the problem with the zero tolerance outlook.

There is NO WAY anyone can justify a downright beating. One, two, three wrongs still don't make a right. I failed to see the #1, 2, and 3 fouls you cited. I guess it was so subtle that the refs missed it...they're human, and I am human, because I missed it as well. That still, in no way, justifies punching someone like a mad man. I say, off the field you go, and don't come back until you know how to control your anger. No kid goes to a game expecting to be pounced.

my2cents.........i did mention something in my original post about this only being a short clip with 3 minutes remaining in the game and nobody knowing the atmosphere of the entire match and how it contributed to this incident.

plantit............if your kid assaults someone on the field of play and you allow (or encourage) your kid to be arrested, then more power to you. I'll applaud yourdistinction to stick to your beliegs on discipline, but you should also accept that most other parents nowadays wouldnt do the same. most parents always point the finger at the other kid or parent when their child is involved in something immediately, no matter what the truth of the matter is. i still would disagree with you about it being assault at all, but its ok to differ in opine. i still think its different within the fram of an athletic competition, otherwise, there'd be no rules on fighting in sport. hope your kid never gets into that situation, cuz there's gonna be some hard decisions to make and tough explaining to do.

finish........not sure me being a lurker means that i dont have the knowledge to post on this topic, or any other topic. at one point, you had only 24 posts and i'm sure nobody got mad at you for #25. i dont really aspire to be a message board hero, although i realize others have different goals in life than myself, but i will post on a topic here or there if i have an opinion to give.

An example of the "selective reading " that takes place on this board.
    By Plantit.

Plantit: " A pink elephant sits on a marshmellow and plays drums with ninja swords.

    Response:

There he goes again telling us all what a great ninja Figo is.

Well he can't hold a candle to the #1 ninja of all time.

He didn't say he was a ninja , he said he was a great drummer.

Well figo's no Tommy Lee who happend to play in the #1 rock and roll band of all time .

Then as a drummer he must suck.

Speaking of "sucking" did ya catch Pam Anderson in that boat movie?

So, Plantit says Figo is now shagging Pam Anderson?

Thats the way I read it.

    Why is Figo pink?

Well he may be a developemental drummer, but when it comes to guitar he sucks.

He didn't say he was a elephant, he said he was a ninja, and a tatoo artist.

Ya, where do you think Tommey Lee got all those tats ?

    Why is figo pink?

Look, can he play the guitar are not?

I don't care how well Plantit, thinks Figo ,can play the guitar. I don't like him cause he hates marshmellows.

Well he can act better than Pam anderson . Have you every seen his hand shaking routine?

Thats why he's pink, he hates shaking hands with Tommy Lee.

No, it's cause his hands were sticky from cleaning up a smashed marshmellow, Where a ninja was sitting playing the drums for Pam Anderson.

    Or was it the guitar.?

I heard he doesn't like shaking hands cause he was the captain on the boat ,where the movie took place. You know captains ? fish guts.

So, Figo plays guitar for the rock band Fish?

They must suck cause there not #1

Speaking of "sucking " did I mention Pam Anderson.

Ya ,she's got this cute little tatoo, of a pink elephant, on her ass cheek . Plantit said Figo told him.

When kids or adults step onto a soccer field, there is a certain level of trust that you must have for the other team. If one player is trying to just take cheap shots and hurt someone, then it ruins the game. It's not soccer anymore. While some elements of our culture, might get off on seeing soccer turn into this, the problem is that not every player stepped onto the field expecting this. Again, soccer requires trust and a respect for the game. If you are going to pull on shorts, then you should expect yours pulled as well. If you are going to play physical, then you should expect it back. It's a game.

Coaches really need to keep their cool and they should pull any player off the field that is playing mad. If they lose because they pulled a player, then they should place the reason for losing entirely on that player's mental weakness that let the team down.

My son began playing in the men's hispanic leagues when he was in the 8th grade. This is what he has learned:
    1. You try as hard as possible to not hurt anyone.
    2. If you put a hard or poor tackle on someone, you help them up.
    3. If someone puts a hard tackle on you, you walk over and give them some skin (quick handshake)
    4. Show respect at all times.
    5. When the game is over, then its over. Win or lose, it was a good game.

It's hard to switch from this environment to the hostility of some of the players in club or high school. There are places they could play where they would learn respect.
your son learned what from the hispanic/mexican league???
    probably more like.....
always start of with an attitude
play with all your heart and anger and foul language
kicking the shins, ankles, knees and thigh's is the same as kicking the ball
sucker punching the other players when the ref's not looking is a given
    spitting is optional but encouraged
fights from fans is a must
did i leave anything out ???

yeah, you left out cheating. "Hey, can you help us out? They won't check your age!" (This happened to us twice already!)

You'll find cheap play and cheating everywhere. Both of my boy's teams have been burnt by the age issue and we also had to beat a team in the qualifying tournament where several players mysteriously went on to other teams after they made D3. However, you would be surprised how playing with respect improves the game. I'll stand with my previous answer.

I will add this. In many countries, soccer is played with the feet. The linebacker tackles where someone gets leveled or slid from behind tends to be taken personally. Our high school had an exchange student from Barcelona, Spain who once complained "Why is everyone so mad, I haven't done anything to them". The American game is fast and physical and unfortunately there are some players that just can't play in that environment without losing their cool. They just shouldn't be out there playing.
