    What happened to ...?

Post  Axxman on Mon Mar 01, 2010 11:02 am

Looks like the Gunners are coming along nicely and are a shoe in for D1. Should end up with at least 29 and quite possible 35, a nice second season run!
Speaking of the Gunners, what ever happened to RIP. Did he stop dating the commish and lose his inside source, or did he simply get tired of all the nonsense??????

Agree on the Gunners as they are a good little team and playing much better soccer. I don't however know why so many people are so surprised as they are a collection of kids that came from many different clubs and many trained very well prior to coming to the Gunners. And of course the Gunners coach deserves credit for teaching them to play as a team and their continued training.

Axxman - I would have to agree with you on the Gunners. As I posted last week, when we played them at the start of this spring season, I was very impressed with their ability to move the ball. I knew they had great athletes, and they did make it difficult for us to get any good shots on goal, lots of speed all over the field. As you can see, we are the only ones to score on them through 4 games this spring. I agree they should make D1, and if they do, they should have alot of folks looking at them as they do not charge the same large fees our big clubs do. Not sure how they will do longterm as far as keeping the team together, but they surely offer a great option for parents that do not want to invest big $$ right now but still want their kids to play in D1.

And that is the big question. If and when the Texans, FCD, or another club comes along and offers one or two of the studs that they want from the Gunners a scholarship, exposure to academy league, coaches, college, etc., then what? It will be hard for a parent to turn that down, and lets face it, it happens. Or perhaps the coach's son moves on. There are just too many scenarios that make it difficult for the independents like the Gunners to survive, been there, done that and it stinks. But that's what we have to live with. And you'd hate to be on a team that breaks up down the road as that's no fun. Don't wish it upon them as they seem to be a nice group, it's just part of the system we are in.

football will kill the gunners. Eventually many of the kids will not be able to do both.

Axxman & Go are right unfortunately. In addition you also have to get some better players if you want to stay competetive in D1 and it's hard to get talent to look at you without a big name behind it.

Omega, not sure if you were asking specifically about D1 teams like Chivas and Barcelona, which both coaches I believe have their sons on the team, but the coach for Wizards in D2 does not.
